Identifying and Resolving NetXen nx_nic (Qlogic) NIC Failures. I’ve had the worst luck with NetXen NICs, specifically the HP branded NC375 quad port 1GbE flavor, as they continuously seem to experience some sort of issue that causes them to drop traffic and reset. This post contains some information on the NIC and how to giftedness definition, troubleshoot the issues that I’ve encountered and sarte freedom, resolved. In vSphere, the NetXen NIC uses the “VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0 Driver CD for giftedness definition, QLogic Intelligent Ethernet Adapters” driver suite. Here’s a link to the latest drivers (as of sarte freedom, 8/16/2011) if you need them. Giftedness Definition! The driver shows up as “nx_nic”. To determine the Greenwood Plath's driver and firmware version you’re using, SSH into the ESX host and giftedness definition, issue this command: The results should be similar to this: To upgrade the drivers, I’m going to assume you have VMware Update Manager (VUM). Download the ISO from the Essay on Understanding Somali link above, extract it to a folder, and then upload the offline bundle zip file into giftedness your VUM repository through the vSphere Client.
The host patch is added to your non-critical updates automagically. Scan your hosts for missing updates and then remediate. I run a lot of different types of NICs, From Broadcom (bnx2 driver) to on Understanding Somali Piracy, Intel (e1000e driver). Giftedness! I’ve not had any issues in years with these cards. I’m not sure who’s dropping the ball on in Sylvia The Bell the NetXen, but these cards just never seem to work 100% all the time. One major issue that I’ve encountered that actually triggers an HA failover is the infamous transmit timeout. There are lots of results for giftedness definition, people having this problem if you search Google. Esther Plath's The Bell Jar Essay! Most of the recommendations are to turn off TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO). However, the March edition of the nx_nic drivers don’t even support TSO, so that’s not the giftedness definition issue. To find out the stats on your card, issue this command:
The results when using version 4.0.585 of the nx_nic drivers are: As you can see, TSO is social anxiety disorder in child disabled. Additionally, the driver download page also states that TSO is not a functioning feature. The issue you will see in the messages.log file of the ESX host affected is as follows. In my case the definition issue is on a card with vmnic0, 1, 2, and 3. From what I can tell, this basically means that the card puked somewhere at the driver level and reset. Social Disorder In Child! I have several hosts that use a pair of these cards (one on board, the other in a PCIe slot). I’ve had several occasions where the cards reset and giftedness, HA no longer has an uplink to sarte freedom, use for heartbeats, so it immediately goes into an isolation response – the advanced HA option of giftedness, das.failuredetectiontime is rendered useless (I have my clusters set to 60 seconds).
By default, HA shuts down guest VMs. The timeline is like this: Cards timeout and reset. HA immediately panics and the host goes into assembly 1920s an isolation response. Giftedness! The VM guests are shut down (default behavior). As the Esther in Sylvia Plath's VMs are shutting down, the card is reset and definition, the uplink is restored. HA heartbeats are received once again. VMs are never powered on at another host location and remained off! TSO in Upgraded Firmware and Drivers. As of the Essay 4.0.598 build of the nx_nic drivers, TSO makes a comeback.
As you can see from the results of my ethtool query, I do now have TSO and it is enabled. If this causes a problem in the future, I’ll disable it – however it was disabled previously (or rather, it was not available), so I don’t know how it could cause further problems to have it on. #128578; There was an announcement from HP on 8/11/2011 that a number of firmware updates are also available for the NetXen suite of hardware. The article states clearly: FIRMWARE UPGRADE REQUIRED to Avoid the Loss and Automatic Recovery of definition, Ethernet Connectivity or Adapter Unresponsiveness Requiring a Server Reboot to Essay Piracy, Recover. To update your firmware on a VMware host, use the “Firmware Upgrade for the NC375i, NC375T, NC522m, and NC522SFP Adapters Under VMware” section, or get a hold of the definition NetXen firmware CD/ISO as I have and install over iLO. Thank you to Ben Richter for discussing his issues with the NetXen cards and Esther Greenwood in Sylvia The Bell Jar Essay, emailing me over this link! Unless you are extremely confident in definition, your network and NetXen cards, set your HA isolation response to “leave powered on” if you are running ESX 4.1 or higher. It will cost you some time when a real HA event occurs, but will save you from this nx_nic headache. The chance of a real HA event are much, much slimmer than having the cards reset (they seem to 1920s, do it on a random host monthly). I’ve submitted a number of giftedness definition, SRs to VMware, but they are unable to assist as it’s considered a driver issue.
If you find a permanent solution, please share in words in an essay, the comments. We have just implemented 7 of these hosts and the other day one host went dark twice in one day. Giftedness Definition! The host completely lost all connectivity on The Bell both nics as the same time (which is giftedness unfortunate when you run all the networking and sarte freedom, storage across them. I really hope the giftedness definition HP 930 firmware plus these latest drivers resolve the Esther in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar Essay issue. I know that our SQL team uses DL 580s and giftedness definition, 980s and 1920s, have reported some network issues as well, which also use these cards, which reinforces my belief that the definition NetXen card will probably not make it into the next rev of Essay on Understanding Somali, G8 servers. #128578; Hi, We had the exact same isolation issue as well with HP NC375T PCI Express cards two different servers on the weekend. Broadcom cards were unaffected.
Driver versions of the NC375T cards as below. Thanks for sharing your experience, Chris. I have not gone longer than a month without the issue randomly popping up on definition my DL 580 cluster, so I still have about 3 weeks left before I know if the new 4.0.598 drives fix the issue. Using the “leave powered on” isolation response has been enough to safeguard from a false positive so far. When the nic failure occurs, the host typically has a bang on it with an assembly 1920s, alarm stating “host error” along with HA noticing a degraded cluster. I’ll make sure to update the post with the outcome. Our big problem is that on our hosts we are putting ALL traffic across them so when it drops…well, everything hits the dirt including the VM’s…. I know its a little late in responding to giftedness definition, your post, however..I am having an issue (maybe) similar to what is happening above. I have a Dl380 G7 series in place with 2 4 port nx_nics. Social Disorder In Child! How when trying to configure Jumbo Frames, I keep getting the following error:” VMkernel failed to definition, set the MTU value 9000 on the uplink vmnic10? I can create a vswitch and Port group and set it to 9000, however I can’t get the NX_Nics to attach…I have broadcom onboard nics and they work perfectly. I have also followed the post above and it stil hasn’t helped..any ideas?
thanks in advance. I can’t say I’ve encountered this issue, but I also don’t use (nor encourage) the use of Essay Piracy, jumbo frames for giftedness definition, VMware. There are a number of person quotes, articles out on the web that reinforce this belief through performance tests – in some cases, jumbo frames can decrease overall performance due to the workload being virtual machines. Giftedness Definition! They do not typically send large strings of data that could take advantage of sarte freedom, a jumbo frame. As for your issue, ensure that your vSwitch is set to an MTU of 9000 before trying to do the giftedness definition same on social anxiety disorder the vmkernel port. I just called HP Tech and giftedness definition, they have a known issue with the NC375T and sarte freedom, not being allowed to definition, enable Jumbo frames with ESXi 4.X.
HP Solution:is downgrade firmware to 4.0.544 as a work around. I have not tested this! I lost the four LOMs in a DL580 G7 last week, even with current firmware and driver in in an essay, ESXi 4.1. Thos whole nx_nix thing seems like a disaster. Just another update everyone – I got a hold of definition, some RC drivers / firmware for the cards from Qlogic and STILL had the NIC disconnect / reset on a host. I don’t have the version numbers off hand but will update when I do. Seriously disappointed with this card. I too am having the social same issue with configuring Jumbo Frames (want one NC375T nic for giftedness definition, iSCSI).
I have updated to the latest firmware as of Nov 22 2011, which is 4.0.579. HP advised to downgrade to immature quotes, 4.0.544, but there is an advisory regarding the unresponsiveness/stability issue that states that the giftedness issue is resolved in firmware 4.0.556 and later. So it seems to be a catch 22 … either have stability + no jumbo frames, or jumbo frames + no stability. What a mess, I am waiting for more updates from anxiety disorder in child HP. Probably time to return these cards I think. We completely replaced all our HP dual port nic’s with the definition Intel X520-SR1 (E10G41BFSR) single port cards at a cost of $12000 (since we only 1920s, ever used a single port anyhow) and giftedness definition, since that time we have not had a single incident or issue with our esx farm dropping.
I’d call that money well spent because I can sleep at night now. […] I’ve used HP from sarte freedom a server capacity, as evident from some of my posts complaining about the definition nx_nic issue, and am familiar with the BladeSystem, Matrix (MOE), CloudSystem, and Cloud Maps concepts (of which […] We’ve decided to go the same route as Mark Hodges and simply replace the cards with Intel cards. I don’t have the exact model (I no longer work at the company where the servers are located) but the problem affected so many servers (including non-VMware DL980 G7’s) that it was thought to be best to simply rip and words to use in an essay, replace. We have 8 DL580 G7s. Each hosts has the NC375i NC375T (2 x 4 ports) When we started we experienced the Host Isolation issue.
Firmware at the time was 4.0.554 and 4.0.554. We upgraded to definition, 4.0.579 firmware using a Windows 2008 R2 installed on a hard drive and to use essay, the online firmware updater. We also loaded 4.0.594 driver. After this change the Host Isolation issue did not occur, but we still had cards stop passing traffic, despite being up. Definition! In this condition no VLANs shown in Network Card configuration, but the cards showed 1000/Full. This was a huge problem as VMs were not moved when they needed to be.
At this point we were using only Link Status as the Esther in Sylvia The Bell Network Failover Detection method. Sooo…we switched to Beacon Probing for everything. This allowed us to identify network outages and have VMs be moved to functioning network adapters. We also noticed that with firmware 4.0.579 we no longer had both cards fail at the same time. We also upgraded to 4.0.598 driver using the vihostupdate.pl command. vihostupdate.pl –server –install –bundle C:Downloadsoffline-bundle602ntx-nx_nic-4.0.602-164009-offline_bundle-509624.zip. After loading the giftedness 4.0.598 driver (still using firmware 4.0.579) we had better overall stability.
Although we still would get notices from vCenter like this: [VMware vCenter – Alarm Network uplink redundancy lost] Lost uplink redundancy on social anxiety disorder virtual switch “vSwitch0?. Physical NIC vmnic0 is down. Affected portgroups:”vMotion”, “Management Network”. Sometimes the alerts would not even show up in vCenter the outage was so brief. VM connectivity seemed pretty good, although we did have several occasions where a host had slow network access and vMotion them to another host resolved the issue. Yesterday we began loading the 4.0.602 nx_nic driver from this package. “VMware ESX/ESXi 4.x Driver CD for Qlogic for giftedness definition, NIC Driver for NetXen HP NC522SFP (P3) Ethernet Devices” It loaded successfully on all of sarte freedom, our Hosts, although it has not been long enough yet to know if this finally fixes the remaining up/down alerts we experience. With the 4.0.598 driver those alerts did not start for several weeks, but then occurred every couple of days or more per definition hosts. We are strongly leaning toward replacing all 8 ports per assembly 1920s host with Intel cards if this driver does not resolve the issue.
This has been a very trying process and I loathe the person who ordered the hardware. Giftedness! They thought “having the immature quotes same card will lead to less chance of problem due to driver conflicts”… too bad it also leads to giftedness, a single point of 1920s, failure when the definition driver is the disorder in child conflict. I hope this helps others as we have invested far more time than we should have to considering we are using hardware on the HCL from name brand vendors. We are now getting onwards of giftedness, 2+ months without a single issue since I put in the X520 single port cards. Those HP cards are now all sitting in a drawer. Anyone know if these cards also have the same problems in Windows or if its specifically a vmware issue. Personally I suspect that having the dual ports is causing the words in an essay cards to overheat (since one of the HP advisories recommended turning up cooling and not puttting cards into specific slots) and the X520’s seem to run much cooler… Do you have a link to this advisory? I have fewer issues with these in Windows machines, perhaps it’s letting them run hotter than vmware. Well, we have had 3 alerts since we upgraded to 4.0.602. This driver did not resolve the issue.
Still using 4.0.579 firmware (the latest available that I know of). The NC375 cards are quad (4) ports per card. I have seen mention this affects Windows as well so it would seem the firmware may have an issue also. We have the NC375T 4port running on a ubuntu server, firmware 4.0.550 and I can’t set the speed to gigabit without the whole card dropping off the network until I restart the networking. ethtool reports that it has changed the settings but afterwards there no activity, even the connection light on the switch dies. Please ignore my post as I have just discovered that the giftedness problem was in fact the disorder in child switch is not actually gigabit, although that wasn’t specified on it’s specification only on the blurb! Important life lesson for me there. DL380’s with NC522SFP 10G using 4.0.602 drivers. Still has random disconnects and giftedness definition, drops network traffic. Anyone have thoughts on the QLE8242? My shop have suffered for this issue for few times already… This is a serious problem of those qlogic cards.
below is the disorder message log just capture from one of the DL585 G7. I have both 375i (onboard) and 2 x 375T add on card. this firmware affect all cards in the server. Actually I have 2 523SFP 10Gb card on that server too with latest firmware 4.8.2, I am afraid that qlogics’ firmware still have problem too. HI, just for definition, clarification: the NC375 / NC375i and 522STP 10G use NetXen-basec Chipsets, which are causing the Issues. But the 523SFP should use a different “Non-NetXen” QLogic-Chip or am I wrong here ? We are looking for Piracy, 10 GbE NICs and HP doesn’t seem to have 10 GbE Intel-branded Adapters. Our current plan was to use the 523SFP (other Options are 550SFP or 552SFP with Emulex-Chips). Has anyone tried to get the giftedness definition cards replaced by disorder, HP (which are unfortunaletly used as onboard-Nics on the DL370 G6 we currently use) ? For Statistics: we are using NC375i on Windows Server 2008 R2 with DataCore on Top and definition, see occational iSCSI-Disconnects for about 5 secs about once every week (Fw.4.0.534), however we see no Packet Errors in Statistics so I suspected the problem somewhere else. You are right. The NC523 has is ql_nic, not nx_nic. I have several boxes with NC522/NC375 – all causing issues in line 1920s, ESX 4 and 5 with different Firmwares and drivers.
I also have several NC550/NC552 Emulex – causing no problems. HP only swapped 522 to new 522, but that ovisoulsy did not help. Definition! We are currently planning to sarte freedom, rip NC522 and replace with NC550. Finally from VMware!! We ave these joke’s of giftedness definition, a card in our cluster as well. Words To Use Essay! Have upgraded the Firmware and giftedness, Drivers and still are having this issue. We are replacing out all the social disorder cards with the Intel nics, since HP will only replace the cards which we’ve already done. Dell is starting to look really good with HP’s clear lack of vision and support that has gone down the tubes in the past three years. Same symptoms and troubles here with those NetXen adapters (NC375T). I am working with HP on this case. Giftedness Definition! When I have some news about immature quotes this case I will update it here.
P.s. we are running the definition latest firmware and social anxiety, drivers: ]# ethtool -i vmnic4. But we still encounter a lot of random vMotion/Storage and VM Traffic issues. I am already tired playing with HP and i got them replace all cards to intels (365T). by the giftedness definition way, the 523SFP seems does not have problem on the latest firmware. We’ve been having the same problem with the NC375T cards. Every now and then one will cause the driver to log “Firmware hang detected.” and reset itself. We’re already running the recommended firmware and driver so those do not fix the quotes issue (as of 6th March 2012). I’ve got an definition, open case with HP to sarte freedom, get a fix. # ethtool -i vmnic7. Hey did you get a fix for this one ??
I have a client running into same problems ./ I wanted to definition, be certain it is a Hardware level issue. I have verified through the logs the message is person same in regards firmware puking for no reason. Guys, can somebody help me and give me steps to update firmware on NC375i and NC375T cards which are installed in DL980. Operating system is ESXi 4.1 driver is latest,4.0.602, but how can I safely update firmare on both cards? Thanks in advance. Just download latest SPP (2012-01) from http://www.hp.com/go/foundation and boot from giftedness definition that DVD. I have several DL585 G7s (NC375i) running vSphere 4.1 that have experienced this issue over the last few months and this entry has been a great help. So I wanted to share that HP support contacted me to say that they are replacing the sarte freedom SPI boards for giftedness, my 585s with a newer Rev board. The criteria is to use in an essay machines that have the “firmware hang detected” message in definition, the vmkernel logs and in child, they are running the 4.0.602 driver and 4.0.579 firmware.
I was told there is a backlog on the boards and to expect delivery in 3-4 weeks. Can you share some information, maybe case number? I have open cases, too… I just wanted to add that we have 10 dl380 g7 with two nc523sfp cards in each. we have two links from each server plugged into two nexus switches. We are getting a single random dropped link on each server periodically. I’m at driver version 4.0.727 and definition, firmware version 4.8.22. I just want to make people aware if they decide to buy this card. could still be a configuration, switch, card, or spf cable problem.
Just odd that it happens on all of line, them at different times. We were using disperse switches, cables and giftedness, NIC’s and we were droppnig completely. After replacing the to use in an NIC’s (and using the intel SP’s) we have not dropped once…since Sept..) You replaced the giftedness definition cards with the same type? nope..replaced them with the Intel x520 single port’s I believe…after that no more problems…unfortunately that was 11k worth of hardware replacements I had to do…and we are afraid to social in child, use the HP’s for anything else. Our main problem with the HP’s was pause frame flooding which would basically kill all traffic on the network and wouldn’t failover to the other. We have “firmware hang” problems with all kinds of Qlogic cards since 6 months. Definition! The DL580G7 onboard NC375i, the quad port NC375T and 10ge NC523SFP. Now we should run a qlogic debugging tool on each ESXi server in Esther Greenwood Plath's The Bell, the backgroud that takes a core dump in case of a hang… Not very promising. We also replaced the NetXen adapter with HP for giftedness definition, the Intel 365T adapters.
No problems since the replacement. We’re now getting new Qlogic cards from HP, including new SPI board with the onboard NIC ports. Don’t know what I should think about that. But we don’t get cards with Intel chips. We also get *new selected* QLogic 10Gb Cards. Social Anxiety! Wonder what will happen then… […] interessant in diesem Zusammenhang ist der Artikel Identifying and Resolving NetXen nx_nic (Qlogic) NIC Failures von Chris Wahl. Gefallt mir:Gefallt mirSei der Erste, dem dieser […] hp is sending us new cards also but it looks like it will be the same card. I opened a ticket with vmware and definition, they are leaning towards driver/firmware.
Mean while i’m going to do some more testing and see if only words, certain configurations are causing this in our environment. There was a discusion on vmware communities about disabling the onboard nics and definition, having only the 10gb ports be seen by person, esxi. Giftedness Definition! i tried that and I had the Essay Piracy same issue. Giftedness Definition! i also seprated the traffic between 4 10gb links instead of just 2 thinking it could be mtu related and i had the same issue. I’m going to go to an explicit failover and remove iphash to see if that helps. So far i can trigger it every 24hrs or so if I do vmotion between two hosts twice an hour. Right now we 2 single port intel 520 10g nic’s and 2 onboard 1g nics active and have not had the problem.
With the sarte freedom 522 cards you are not able to definition, disable one of the ports on the dual port card so you can’t have any of the person quotes 1g nic’s active (since 4-10g means you cannot have any 1g cards) We did try going with a single dual port 522 (so we were running 2-10G and 2-1G) and we still fell over with the 522’s… It sounds like you have the exact same setup that we have. The randomness of it all was what drove me crazy! We replaced the 523 cards with dual port x520s back in giftedness definition, February and have not had any issues since then. Did you ever get anywhere with the firmware dumps? If it turns out that HP is replacing “faulty” nics, I might have to in an, call and get the definition ones sitting in words essay, a box replaced with ones that work. just to keep people updated. I’ve removed iphash and giftedness definition, the portchannel.
The vsphere 4.1 cluster im testing on i have had no issues so far its almost been 48hrs BUT i did make the immature quotes change on our exchange ESXI cluster and I had a host fail with the giftedness definition Firmware Hang Detected so it doenst look like the config changes are working. i’m going to try what others are doing and replace 13 unboxed NC523sfp with nc552sfps. Person Quotes! Im going to buy an intel card to test with also since you guys are havng good luck with them. Giftedness! Also on the esxi host for our exchange servers I didn disable the 4 1gb nics so Im going to person, try that on those servers while i’m waiting for definition, the other cards. i noticed on social the NC523sfp card that hp sent me to replace my other NC523sfp it had Rev: 0C on giftedness the sticker. the cards in Essay on Understanding Piracy, the servers that are failing are of the definition same Rev 0C so I’m not sure its going to Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's, make a difference changing it. On the vmware thread I’m on other users were mentioning having Rev 0B. Definition! I dont know if this means there is a difference between the cards but I thought Id mention it. Just a note – the HP NC523SFP has similar issues. I have a bunch of servers each have two of the cards and Essay on Understanding Somali Piracy, the cards would regularly fail. Definition! There was urgent firmware released late last year along with a bios change to increase the cooling but it doesn’t help (didn’t do anything for me). HP and social disorder, Qlogic are trying to definition, keep it quiet because there are a lot of cards to replace.
It took me almost two months to Piracy, get replacement cards. There apparently was a manufacturing issue with the original sets of giftedness, cards and sarte freedom, there is giftedness definition a new hardware revision that fixes it. For HP the spare part# is sarte freedom 593715-001 (what L2 told me when I told them a big package had arrived with that number on it – my servers are remote so I didn’t know what was in the box). You can’t get this part# if you just call HP and tell them to definition, replace your NIC, you have to go through escalation and stuff. My new NICs shipped from somewhere deep in the innards of anxiety, HP direct to me, they didn’t go through the field team for our 4 hour on site support. I had them replace the NICs in the servers every other day and at least so far it seems to definition, have resolved the issues. The L2/L3 support folks at HP claim to be confident that this revision of hardware resolves the Esther Greenwood Plath's Jar Essay outstanding hardware issues on giftedness the 523SFP. I was impressed with how well the person HP techs cabled up my systems. I mean I took great pains to giftedness, label and stuff, but there are 11 cables on each of my DL385G7s, and at least for the 10GbE and FC (boot from SAN) – if you plug em in to the wrong ports bad things happen. But I verified each and sarte freedom, every 10GbE port was correct after they replaced the NICs and they were every time.
Same goes for FC (with the boot from SAN if the FC cables are swapped the card won’t see the LUN and giftedness, won’t boot – not hard to fix just go to the bios and re-scan again and change the LUN, but still annoying). It’s a wide spread issue, on social anxiety in child two different occasions I had full on network card failure – the giftedness cards would not pass traffic. Essay On Understanding! I could get them working again for a few hours by rebooting, but then they would die again. VMware would sit there for hours resetting the card over and over. 3 cards in two servers in less than a week – in both cases – despite having 4 hour on giftedness definition site support there was no spare parts in the area. In one case I had to person, wait 5 days for new cards (and these were not the giftedness definition new cards these were just replacement old cards until the social anxiety disorder new cards arrived) because of miscommunication inside HP. If you see messages like this on boot up – replace your card too (if it wasn’t obvious) #128578; NIC boot code starting cmd peg times out! status 0xffffffff.
ql_update_adapt_cfg failed to init nic rc fffd for pci dev c00. SetupOSCD failed to init nic rc fffd for pci dev c00. Abort QLogic NIC boot process. That first message I saw on giftedness one system several months ago, I didn’t know what it was for so I ran diagnostics at the time but didn’t get anything from them. Fortunately we designed our systems with two cards each and split our distributed virtual switches across them(active/passive – no load balancing), so when one card completely failed the other one took over pretty quick. Also all of immature person quotes, our storage if good ‘ol fibre channel so that never skipped a beat. Also I put all of our service consoles on giftedness definition a separate redundant 1GbE network.
I planned for words, the worst when I built it – I honestly didn’t think I’d ever need it. This is a well known issue inside HP, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting on definition the list to get new cards if you can provide the log files to show the social disorder issue your having – they also may have you provide a firmware dump (which can be painful because the definition firmware dump rendered my NICs inoperable until I rebooted) – also to get a firmware dump you have to wait until the social disorder problem recurs, you can’t just trigger it on demand. For me it took about 3 days until the giftedness definition NICs failed again on that particular server. Esther Greenwood In Sylvia Jar Essay! I was expecting the backup NICs to take over but it seems the firmware dump process did something to them, or the drivers, the backup NICs didn’t work either and all VMs lost connectivity. Fortunately I was still able to manage the server with the 1GbE network. I feel for those folks that are relying on giftedness IP storage and just have a single NIC since these problems cause both ports on immature quotes the NICs to giftedness, fail simultaneously. hopefully this can help some of Essay Somali Piracy, you out there.
I haven’t posted on this topic on definition my own blog yet. There is another known issue on the NC522SFP (I believe) that I was made aware of Esther in Sylvia, recently – apparently with certain passive copper cables can trigger this NIC to definition, flap it’s network ports (not the same behavior as the 523 issue). This is Greenwood Plath's Jar Essay a known issue in the firmware (no fix yet) – and is hit or miss depending on giftedness definition what card you have(different cards with the same model# can behave differently). The only true workaround if you have this issue is to use optical cable instead of passive copper. Or maybe you can get lucky by changing the passive copper cable your using as it doesn’t happen on all cables (again – was told it was hit or miss, they haven’t found a sure workaround other than to use optical). also – you can’t order new systems with the new cards.
My HP VAR has been trying for the same two months to sarte freedom, get new NICs for other servers that we bought last year(but are not using yet they are being shipped to giftedness, europe soon), and so far has not had much luck. I’m sure that given the The Bell Jar Essay configuration is the same and it’s for the same customer(me) that it’s just a matter of time, but still it’s taking a while. @Jonesy: after uploading the firmware dumps to HP (about 8 of them) HP deceided to send us new NC375T cards and giftedness, new SPI boards with NC375i. In Sylvia The Bell! I’m still waiting for definition, the cards to arrive. Line! The NC523SFP 10ge cards were replaced some months ago with NC550 Emulex cards. Thanks for the update! Did HP actually find anything with all those firmware dumps or are they just throwing different hardware at the problem? I don’t know what HP or Qlogic did with the dumps. Giftedness Definition! Shortly after we uploaded the dumps we received the message from HP that Qlogic confirmed the problem and that we’ll get cards with a revision of the board/chip. Don’t know why the “Firmware hang” message wasn’t enough, because the cards simply didn’t work. We had 2 HA failures because the ESXi host was not reachable for 30 seconds.
I received the new NC375T cards today. The revision number is words to use 0G. We have ar least one old card that already has Rev. 0G the giftedness rest is 0F. So maybe we are lucky and 0G really fixes the assembly line 1920s problem. NC523sfp issues. I’ve been testing with x520-da2, nc552sfp and nc550sfp cards and I’ve had zero issues with either of the cards. Giftedness! I left a host in each of my vsphere clusters with the nc523sfp cards and anxiety, they would fail every few days the other cards would stay up. I made zero configuration changes just so I could make sure it was the cardfirmwaredriver. Definition! I’ve been testing this for the last couple of weeks. Words To Use In An Essay! We are going to giftedness, purchase nc552sfp cards as are our solution to this issue.
The 20+ nc523sfp cards will be resused in our windows servers. Essay On Understanding Somali Piracy! There is another guy over on definition the vmware forums doing similar testing and he’s had similar results. So, the 522 and 523 cards have been failing in Esther Greenwood The Bell Jar Essay, the vmware environments, but they do work properly without failure on Windows Servers? I would really like to use these 14x 522 cards if I was confident they wouldn’t fall over on us… Waiting on giftedness our HP rep to investigate replacing them…. We are testing it with our netbackup solution which is on a windows platform. I hate to have the line nc 523sfp cards just sit around not being used so I’m hopeful i can. Based on the comments it sounds like that might not be the case.
I was hoping the issue was more driver related. We are still doing testing so i dont know if they will work for us in definition, window or not. I would be careful about using these cards in line, your Windows Servers, I have seen references on the Internet that this can affect Windows as well. People with large SQL servers were reporting the issue. We replaced ours with Intel cards about definition 3 months ago and not have not seen a single issue since then related to Essay on Understanding Piracy, the network. Giftedness! I was not interested in being a Beta Tester for words essay, QLogic/HP.
Ken you are right after further testing we are having issues with the windows servers also. I hate to have the nc523sfp cards laying around and not be able to use them but I just dont trust them. We have had two replacement (rev.G) NC375T cards sent to us by giftedness definition, HP and they seem to have resolved the issue. We had 4 pre-rev.G cards which were causing us problems. We swapped all of the assembly line faulty cards out for NC364T cards we had in stock as soon as we were able as loss of definition, network connectivity on ESX hosts using Ethernet-connected storage was causing outages and corruption. Unfortunately HP will only replace the other two cards if we put them back into servers and reproduce the error with associated logs etc. 1920s! I’m not prepared to put customer services at giftedness very real known risk in order to prove each card is faulty so we will have to take the hit. Extremely unimpressed by to use essay, that latter response from HP and quite glad that we’re switching away from them in the near future.
Am running into this problem despite updating firmware on the cards.. presumably I need to definition, install the 1920s VMware driver *as well as* the firmware update? When the card “crashes” I can see in definition, the vmkernel the to use essay firmware version of the card (4.0.579) but am running an older driver (4.0.550.1-1vmw) … We have been experiencing issues with all qLogic NIC’s except the NC522SFP. Sure they had issues early on giftedness definition but have been very stable since the last firmware release in words in an, late 2011. Unfortunatly the NC375T’s and NC523SFP were so unstable they have been banished to the LAB and replaced with NC365T’s and NC552SFP’s respectively. Now to the NC375i, these have been simply horrible. HP refused to giftedness definition, accept there were issues with them early on, qLogic released a firmware and driver update to address the words essay precise issue that HP said didn’t exist.
Since the last firmware and driver update the definition issue still persits. HP have not been very supportive this time around either but are al least talking about it. I hear there is a new SPI riser board available which uses updated hardware, apparently this resolves the issues with these NIC’s pausing.. Somali! They only giftedness definition, seem to do this when pushed very hard.. I see utiliation of upto 600Mb/s then the NIC’s just stop transmitting and recieveing. All hell breaks loose, alarms start ringing and the phone calls start. I’m over it, I really need a solution which does not involve me throwing money at quotes HP to replace something we have already purchased but doesn’t do the job it’s designed to do. Oddly enough Dell are aware of these issues and have offered assistance..
They are looking to giftedness definition, get a foot in to the DataCentre per say.. They might get it yet. Simply Dell are offering to be part of the solution, HP seem content to be part of the sarte freedom problem. Just a work for HP if you are reading. Everything can suffer problems, what defines the better party is the method they utilise to giftedness, resolve these problems.
After all our NC375i and NC375T were replaced by cards with a new hardware revision we had no firmware hang problems for 5 weeks…. until today. One NC375i card had a firmware hang this morning. So it seems the new revision improves the situation but does not solve it 100%. There is words to use a new firmware/Driver package available. I’ve no idea if this resolves anything and definition, I have no confidence in qLogics statements about it resolving anything.. Hey the last 2 firmware/driver packages have resolved the issue.. Obviously NOT. This package is for NC375i, NC375T, NC522SFP nic’s. After applying the disorder in child package on a Dev server I now see.
There was a catch to this. After applying the package via the VMWare update manager. The server rebooted as expected. When the server was back up the VC could not connect to it. Further investigation showed the NC375i nic’s were not initialised or connected, even though they were before applying the package. A reboot of the server didn’t resolve anything, so I headed for the computer room. I needed to giftedness definition, in this case power the hardware down to disconnect the assembly 1920s ILO as it was connected to my PC at another site which was not accessible to me from within the computer room. So I truely pulled the power on the server. Powered the giftedness definition server up again and sarte freedom, ILO’ed to the server from my laptop within the Computer Room..
To my surprise the NC375i nic’s were all up and giftedness, working. It appears in at least some situations it maybe necessary to immature person, power the server off after applying this Firmware/Driver package. Dodgy Dogy stuff HP or more to the point QLogic. I hope this rather arduous process isn’t necessary on giftedness all servers but there’s my experience so far. Dodgy Dogy stuff HP or more to sarte freedom, the point QLogic. This is also true for Emulex CNA FW-Upgrades, but Power-Cold Boot via iLO does the job. You do nt need physical access to pull the giftedness definition plugs. Also, the driver/fw you are referring to sarte freedom, is three month old and giftedness definition, did not fix the problems. Not sure how old this forum is but we have been experiencing issues with the line NC522sfp / DL580 G7 servers for definition, a year and a half. We finally have a resolution so I hope this helps everybody here. It turns out that there is social a manufacturing issue with the giftedness Qlogic chipset that of course affects the NC522SFP 10Gbe cards as well as the onboard cards on a Dl580 G7 server.
If you run the following on an ESX host, you will determine if the server is affected.: cat /var/log/vmkernel* | grep -i -e “firmware hang” -e “device is DOWN” What you have to do is open a case with HP and get the SPI board or the NC522 card replaced. HP replaced every single one of our cards and social, server SPI boards and we have lots of giftedness, them…(20) DL580 G7’s running ESX and (20) NC522 cards. Line 1920s! What a nightmare this has been but I am glad they have a solution. As a note, I tried every driver, firmware version, etc and noting helped which is not surprising since it is a hardware manufacturing isue. Knock on wood, all is good thusfar and yes it doesn’t look good on the resume when you have hosts going down and people are pointing the finger at you. By the definition way, the problem has lasted since early 2011 and we are in July of 2012.
Good Luck! Hi Tim, do you have the assembly line 1920s HP case number so we can reference to? we had the same firmware hang issue with our server. Thanks much! 9/24/2012 – I have been having the issue about giftedness once every 6 months (Dl585 G7) until about 2 weeks ago. It has happened 3 times since then. Over this past weekend, I updated to the firmware dated 9/4/12 (4.0.588) which says it specifically addresses this issue. I also updated to the latest drivers. Within less than a day, the assembly server already hung the definition NIC before anyone hit the system yet (1 hour of Essay, use). I opened a case today, and they are shipping me a replacement SPI board.
The new firmware/drivers do NOTHING to help this issue, as it is a hardware problem. We finally 12 months later and a discussion about moving to IBM have replacement 5222SFP Nic’s that the giftedness rep states is a known issue with the to use essay earlier revision cards. The old revision cards were 0B and the new revision are a 0H….I put 2 cards into definition an Windows server and social disorder, never had a drop eventhough I happened them with 1.3TB of data transfer… Will put 2 into a new ESX 5 box at some point and giftedness, see if they survive… We’ve been chasing down this problem for nearly two months and narrowed in the NC375T network adapter as well. Most vDS connections have a redundant connection to another model NIC so we moved the problem uplink to line, standby.
No combination of drivers and firmware fixes the giftedness problem. HP just sent out a replacement card which seems the same (though I did not check the hardware rev -next time I open the server I guess) , although the problem only occurs under load so time will tell. In the meantime we’re replacing one of the NC375T adapters per server with an Intel based card instead. Painful. We have been dealing witht his problem for approx 6 months now and Esther Greenwood, after numerous firmware and driver updates we are at a cross roads. HP was willing to ship me out definition another 375T card with revision 0J. Can anyone confirm that a later revision fixes the actual issue and on Understanding Piracy, you don’t see anymore disconnects? Share your point of view!

Nov 17, 2017 Giftedness definition,
ACT Writing and New SAT Essay Requirements. The redesigned SAT, with its optional essay, forced many colleges to revisit policies. Giftedness Definition? A major shift has taken place in essay requirements for the SAT and Esther ACT, and there may be additional changes for the classes of giftedness 2018 and 2019. Of the 360 colleges and universities in anxiety disorder, the Compass 360 , fewer than 10% require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing (see below for the complete list). Early on, high profile schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Stanford, and the University of California system affirmed their commitment to the SAT Essay and the recently revamped ACT Writing. Meanwhile, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Cornell, Northwestern, and Boston College adopted policies that dropped the essay for giftedness definition both ACT and SAT. College Board and ACT maintain lists of essay policies, but students should not depend upon them. Somali? College Board#8217;s is new and very incomplete. Giftedness? ACT#8217;s is line 1920s old and stale (i.e. Giftedness? includes no information on recent drops).
In general, the testing companies do an uneven job in keeping such resources up-to-date. Compass goes directly to sarte freedom, the colleges for the latest information. The following table of 360 popular colleges provides a wide range of giftedness definition institutions and policies. In general, we find that less competitive colleges are less likely to require either essay. Despite the decline in colleges requiring an words to use in an essay, SAT or ACT essay, Compass is still recommending that students make the giftedness definition essay a part of their testing plans. Skipping the essay can leave a student scrambling to fit in an additional test date should his or her college plans change. Some colleges requiring the essay will not superscore test dates without the essay. The University of assembly 1920s California system alone drives the giftedness definition decision for many of Compass#8217; students.
Just as important, it#8217;s uncommon for an ACT or SAT essay to be a significant negative factor on an application. With a minimum amount of immature person quotes practice, most students can reach the 25th 75th percentile score ranges of definition even the assembly 1920s most elite colleges in the country #8212; something not at all true about other sections of the giftedness exams. In other words, there is more upside to downside when looking at having a longer #8212; and somewhat more expensive #8212; test day. ACT and SAT Essay Requirements - Class of Piracy 2018 and Beyond. Giftedness? *School has a Test Optional or Test Flexible policy but may still have requirements for students choosing to sarte freedom, submit SAT or ACT scores. Note: #8220;TBD#8221; or [blank] reflects a policy to be determined by the college or for definition which Compass has insufficient information. Post a comment or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or recommended changes. The Compass 360 provides New SAT and ACT scores for some of the most competitive colleges in the country. Subject Test requirements continue to evolve, so Compass keeps an up-to-date list.
ACT Writing scores have gone through multiple changes. Words To Use In An? To try to clear things up, Compass has published ACT Writing Scores Explained. Definition? A similar analysis for the SAT is also available. Art graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he was the top-ranked liberal arts student in his class. Art pioneered the one-on-one approach to test prep in California in 1989 and social disorder co-founded Compass Education Group in 2004 in order to bring the best ideas and tutors into students' homes and computers. Although he has attained perfect scores on all flavors of the SAT and ACT, he is routinely beaten in backgammon. [#8230;] Chart Compiled by Compass Prep [#8230;] Do you think the ACT Board will re-examine the inadequacies of the definition writing score and re-scale so it makes more sense? My daughter rec#8217;d a 27 but it was the 95th percentile. Low number for Somali Piracy high percentile.
She also rec#8217;d 10s in each of the 4 domains. Compass would certainly like if they did #8212; or at least published full data on what they are seeing. My guess is that they will not monkey with the scales, however. Once a scale is set, it#8217;s not a simple thing to reset, as it impacts everyone else who has ever taken the test. ACT has left its other scales unchanged since 1989. It is regrettable that ACT decided to move to 1-36 for Writing #8212; especially before it was ever administered. Recent experiences have proved what we expected #8212; the essay is simply not reliable enough to take its place beside the other scores. Keep in mind that everyone is facing the same situation. Writing scores, in general, are more tightly clustered than raw scores on the other tests. Colleges will see this on giftedness their reports. And as you see above, many are dropping their policies and few have ever given much weight to assembly 1920s, Writing.
It sounds like your daughter did quite well, and giftedness that remains true even if her 27 is social disorder #8220;lower#8221; than her other scores. Thank you for compiling this list and adding to it throughout the year as other schools may adjust their essay policies. This information is very helpful. You are welcome! We will stay on top of it. [#8230;] the giftedness definition NEW SAT Writing section, which will not, and which require the ACT writing section. This list is quite helpful! Compass also maintains a list of colleges that require SAT Subject [#8230;] Thank you for the helpful list. I was just wondering how you are obtaining your information? I didn#8217;t see anything on Duke#8217;s site about the new SAT essay the College Board#8217;s list doesn#8217;t mention Duke at disorder in child all.
If College Board doesn#8217;t mention the school at all on giftedness definition its list, do you think it#8217;s risky to assume the essay is not required? Also, do you have any sense of whether schools would ever do a reverse decide to start requiring the essay even if they previously didn#8217;t? I#8217;d rather not do the essay, but will if I have to. Thanks again for person quotes your help! Good questions. When we could not find a definitive answer on a school#8217;s website, we contacted the admissions office directly. Duke is notable because it is keeping its ACT requirement but only recommending the SAT essay. It has a convoluted rationale involving the Subject Tests.
The College Board list is giftedness definition opt-in, I believe. Schools can submit their information to College Board. As you have found, not all have done so. On Understanding Somali Piracy? I also don#8217;t expect the giftedness CB list to be maintained as policies shift. We will be doubling the size of immature person our own list (to 200 of the top colleges) within the next week.
The reverse is definition possible only for the ACT, since all old SAT students took the essay (although it is true that not all colleges used the essay). Disorder In Child? I know of no college moving in that direction, and I think it highly unlikely given the criticism of the new ACT Writing (1 school out of a thousand, perhaps). My daughter took the ACT with writing and scored a 32 for the composite score but only a 23 for writing. I have two questions. One is whether she can submit the giftedness ACT but somehow choose not to submit the writing section, and to use essay the other is whether it makes sense to definition, pay for them to immature person, re-score it.
Thanks in giftedness, advance for your answer. Line? No, your daughter can only submit the definition test in its entirety. It is up to immature, college policies to determine what they will do with it. I don#8217;t like to be cavalier with other people#8217;s money, but my general advice is that a rescoring is merited if a student is disappointed with his or her score. Personally, I#8217;d like to see every April test-taker march on Iowa City with $50 in one hand and a protest sign in the other. Giftedness? But that last bit has nothing to social anxiety in child, do with your daughter#8217;s situation. I#8217;d also consider two ideas: 1) College#8217;s think little of the ACT Writing. Giftedness? Most never used it in the first place, and even more are dropping it now that schools no longer have to quotes, worry about the definition (formerly) required SAT essay.
Even those that require it put far less stock in it than any other test score. 2) The mean score of the Writing is misleadingly lower than that of the other sections. Her 23 is 83rd percentile according to the figures released by ACT. In the other 4 subject areas, scores from 25-28 are at that percentile. A 23 seems lower than it is because of assembly line 1920s our natural reaction to compare it directly to other 1-36 scores. Carnegie Mellon has dropped both SAT and ACT essay requirements.
Joanna, thank you for definition the information. We#8217;ve updated Carnegie Mellon#8217;s policy and sarte freedom will be updating other schools shortly. More and giftedness more colleges are firming up policies for class of on Understanding Piracy 2017). My son took the SAT and definition got a 1500 730 reading/writing 770 Math, but his supplemental wring essay he didn#8217;t far well how much weight will rice University put with that. Rice does not require the SAT essay.
Although colleges will still see that score, it#8217;s rare that an essay-optional school would put much weight at all on immature quotes it. I don#8217;t think you should be concerned about giftedness definition, how Rice will view the score. I have a question regarding the immature quotes SAT with essay. Giftedness Definition? I have taken the SAT twice. The first time i took the 1920s SAT with essay but the second one i did it without the giftedness essay. If i want to send my second SAT score to colleges can i use the essay score from my first SAT?
Unfortunately, I do not know of assembly any colleges that will combine SAT w/Essay with SAT w/o Essay scores. This creates a situation where #8212; even though most colleges do not require the essay #8212; most students are best advised to definition, take the essay. This seems like over-testing that could easily be eliminated if colleges decided to superscore essay an non-essay results, but admission offices have not yet come around to that way of thinking. Anxiety Disorder? I#8217;m in the same boat as Arvind. My school required me to take the New SAT in giftedness, March without the essay. I took the sarte freedom New SAT again in May with the essay. I am really happy with my essay score and my FIRST Reading/Writing and Math score and I want to definition, combine the two components.
Colleges tend to move slowly in 1920s, response to testing changes and giftedness definition often take direction from the testing organizations. Until this year, there was no ability to send an words to use essay, SAT score without an essay, so policies on superscoring were irrelevant. There was also the sense that #8220;we want all students to be comparable, so if we require ACT w/Writing, then we are going to only accept scores from ACT w/Writing administrations.#8221; Now that both tests are essay optional and the essays come at the end of the test (so there is no impact on giftedness definition test performance), it is completely illogical for superscoring colleges not to immature person, superscore the essay. But colleges have just not figured it out definition, yet. I took old SAT three times, now i decided to sarte freedom, take the new SAT in October. Will the giftedness colleges combine my old and Somali new scores? since a lot of schools do not require essay portion, can i just not take it? Thanks!
Also, I am looking at Northeastern#8217;s website, it said that it required SAT with writing, does that mean that Northeastern require the new SAT essay portion? Are you looking at https://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/application-information/? This information appears to be for the class of 2016, because it is actually referring to the ACT with Writing. Northeastern has decided not to require the giftedness new SAT essay or the ACT essay going forward. Colleges will not superscore sections across new and old SATs. They will accept both tests and, in most cases, will evaluate your application on your highest score. Essay Somali Piracy? The catch is that if any of your target colleges require the definition essay, then you will not be able to use your new SAT score without an essay. Essay? Since you already have three old SAT scores, you would be able to use those. It#8217;s unfortunate that the 20% of universities requiring the definition essay are making it so difficult students to avoid the sarte freedom extra testing and expense.
When a school says that the essay is optional, does that really mean it is definition not #8220;required#8221; but highly #8220;recommended#8221;. Because my son plays sports and they have #8220;optional#8221; workouts but really they aren#8217;t optional if you really want to make the team. They are required!! Terri, I really like that analogy. It#8217;s apt for some colleges that claim to only #8220;recommend#8221; Subject Tests #8212; Stanford and Georgetown, for example. That has not come up on ACT Writing / SAT Essay. We#8217;ve tried to classify as #8220;Optional#8221; colleges that don#8217;t use the Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's essay for admission. There may be several cases where the essay score will be considered if submitted (unfortunately, one can#8217;t leave it off of giftedness definition a submitted test date). More common are schools that #8220;recommend#8221; the essay only because it is used for freshman composition placement. I have sons that scored 29 and 31 composite but only 17 on line 1920s the writing.
They took it again without writing and went up to 31 and 32. If certain schools they apply to DO require the writing, do you think they need to retake it with writing again, or is the giftedness main focus really on composite score? I#8217;m usually loathe to anxiety disorder in child, recommend retesting based on Writing alone, but the discrepancy between your sons#8217; Composite and Writing score and giftedness the fact that your sons have higher scores on the test without Writing (which means *some* schools that require writing will not use the person quotes 31 and giftedness 32) makes me think that a retake would be useful. Scores in the low 20#8217;s are common enough that I don#8217;t think colleges will think much of them one way or the other. High scoring students with Writing scores in the teens may face more stigma. Anxiety In Child? My son scored a 29 composite score overall on the ACT (32 English, 30 reading, 30 science 25 math) but a 16 on the essay. I believe that most of the schools that he may apply to do not require the writing portion. I am concerned however that a 16 on the essay will hurt his chances. What do you suggest? Also he has a learning disability which impacts his math score.
Is the giftedness fact that his math score is sarte freedom significantly lower than his other scores a cause for concern? Should he address it in his application? When high scoring students receive Writing scores in the teens, I do grow concerned. In informal discussions with admissions officers, many fully admit that they don#8217;t put much weight on giftedness definition Writing. When asked if they might view a 15 as a red flag, they admit #8220;yes, that would raise eyebrows.#8221; Your son did very well, and I#8217;d hate to see him disadvantaged by the Writing score. I would recommend retesting if his schedule allows. If his learning disability impacts his math grades and testing overall, then you may find an opportunity to address it in the application. If you are only concerned that it impacted his ability on a speeded test like the immature ACT, I would not recommend making an giftedness, issue of it. I scored 1350 in Plath's, jun sat. is definition it an ok score for an international student aspiring to get in to a reasonably good university with computer science.
I am also planning to take math level 2 and physics subject tests.pl adv. I would recommend looking at our college profiles with estimated new SAT score ranges. In general, you#8217;ll be competitive #8212; which is not the same thing as saying that you#8217;ll be admitted #8212; at colleges where your scores are closer to the 75th percentile than the 25th percentile. Students and parents often don#8217;t realize that the scores of admitted students are actually higher than the reported scores for enrolled students (we use the in child latter because not all college provide figures for admitted students). Keep in mind that test scores are only one part of your application. Giftedness Definition? They tend to anxiety disorder, have a bit more weight for giftedness international students, because admission officers are not always as familiar with the curriculum and grading standards of other countries. You have Georgetown University listed as required for both essay portions. However in the paragraph on page one it states: #8220;Other schools such as University of Chicago and Georgetown never adopted ACT Writing in sarte freedom, the first place, ignored the original SAT essay, and giftedness definition will ignore the New SAT Essay. #8221; Can you clarify which is correct?
We posted a set of updates yesterday that apparently had the faulty info on Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar Essay Georgetown. They definitely DO NOT require the SAT Essay or ACT Writing. Thank you for catching that error. We#8217;ll review today to see that nothing else got flipped by mistake. Giftedness Definition? I am hoping to apply Early Decision to Columbia this fall. Words To Use In An? I have taken the ACT and recieved a 34 composite but I got a 21 on giftedness definition the writing. I#8217;m not sure how this is possible as I received a 36 on the English section, so I obviously understand language arts. Anyways, should I retake the test? I know the percentiles are shifted on the writing but it seems like a 21 would be a red flag. Quotes? Also, I have not yet taken subject tests as most schools do not require them when submitting the giftedness definition ACTs.
Should I plan on taking those too? Would it be detrimental to my application if I have not taken them? Thank you so much for your help! This list is so useful! As you probably know, Columbia does not require the immature person Writing. It will still be submitted with your ACT score, but the giftedness fact that it is optional for test takers gives you an idea of how important Columbia considers it #8212; not very. To Use In An? The essay task and scoring system on the ACT writing are quite suspect, and giftedness colleges recognize it. We see many students with you composite, and the writing scores fall all over the board. I don#8217;t think the 21 will serve as a red flag. Columbia does not superscore the ACT, so this may impact your decision a bit.
Retaking will only help you if you can raise your composite. Although retesting can#8217;t hurt you at sarte freedom Columbia (they will consider your highest scores), you#8217;ll need to consider the definition policies at the other schools on your list. Because so many students at in Sylvia Plath's Jar Essay the top universities have great ACT or SAT scores, I do recommend that students *consider* Subject Tests. You#8217;ll only want to worry about them if you think that they can improve your testing portfolio. In the case of elite schools like Columbia, that means 750+ (or at least 700+).
You can try tests from the giftedness Official Guide published by to use in an essay, College Board. Definition? Fewer schools than ever are requiring the Subject Tests #8212; especially with ACT scores. It would be a little challenging to fit them in person, (including preparing for them) as senior year starts and application season begins, so you may want to just sit tight with your ACT score. I recently read your post on the new ACT writing test and giftedness definition found it to be very thorough and a little unsettling. I had two quick questions: My son is quite interested in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He took the ACT in September. His ACT composite was 31 #8212; solidly in the school#8217;s range #8212; and he scored a perfect 36 on either the English/Reading component.
But his writing score was 6 #8212; which, I think, falls somewhere in the 40th percentile. In An Essay? Not strong. After reading your post, I#8217;m wondering how reliable those scores are. Giftedness Definition? Do you recommend that he should take the Somali Piracy test again? And on this post, you indicate the giftedness definition writing test portion is #8220;optional#8221; for the Coast Guard Academy. Anxiety? But its website says it is required. Can you shed some light on that?
Thank you. I#8217;ve got an email into USCGA to see if they can help clarify. You are correct that they appear to be in the #8220;Require#8221; camp, and we will update our information. They had previously left things ambiguous and have still not stated their policy on the College Board website. The other question I have for giftedness them has to do with consideration #8212; is the essay used for admission? The superscoring example that they give in their testing FAQ and the score range summary only mentions CR and M from the Esther Greenwood old SAT. Did they also use Writing or was it just for placement or research?
Is the giftedness same true of the ACT Writing? I#8217;d recommend contact them yourself, too. Social? It#8217;s in the 6 range where I do start to have concerns. Definition? Probably less of The Bell one in your son#8217;s case because his ACT score is very solid for the Academy. It sounds like his ELA score would be strong despite the low essay score. It#8217;s highly likely that he could improve his essay score upon retesting. I would try to push admissions for their take. Unless you can pin them down that it won#8217;t matter much, your son may want to think about taking the ACT again. I hate to see students commit to definition, extra testing just because of Writing, but I#8217;d also hate to Essay, see your son not have everything working in his favor.
Please update if you find anything new. I#8217;ll do the same. USCGA got back to me with the following response: #8220;The requirement to giftedness, take the writing section is just to assembly 1920s, put all applicants on giftedness definition the same playing field, it is not heavily weighed when considering an applicant’s competitiveness.#8221; It sounds like it would be unlikely to impact your son#8217;s application #8212; especially since, given his other scores, there would no concern about his verbal abilities. Thank you for this very helpful post. Anxiety In Child? Just wondering about Reed; the table specifies the writing sections as #8220;optional#8221; but the Updates paragraph includes Reed in the list of giftedness definition colleges for Greenwood in Sylvia The Bell which the definition requirement for the SAT essay has recently been added? Thank you for pointing this out. We had originally had misinformation on Reed#8217;s policy. Our table was corrected, but the paragraph had not been fixed. On Understanding? Reed is essay optional for both the SAT and ACT.
My son will be applying to Harvard and other schools. Giftedness? He took the new SAT in March and received a 790 CR, 800 Math and a 17 on the essay. He retook the new SAT in to use, June and received a 770 CR, 790 Math and a 21 on the essay. Should he submit both scores so that Harvard sees the higher essay score? Or should he just submit the first score of 1590 with a 17 on the essay? Thanks for the help. This is giftedness very confusing! Given your son#8217;s circumstances, I would submit both scores.
First, Harvard superscores the SAT, so that makes the decision far easier. Even if the don#8217;t superscore the writing, your son would be no worse off. Second, neither of his non-essay scores is assembly line 1920s a concern, so it is not as if Harvard would see a score that would scare them off. Giftedness Definition? While the difference between the 17 and 1920s 21 is minimal and is unlikely to impact your son#8217;s chances for admission, there is no reason for giftedness him to put his best scores forward. If it#8217;s any solace, it#8217;s just as confusing for in child admission offices. Hello. I have done the new SAT with essay on October, and have got the required score for the essay, but not a good score for the SAT. If i retake the SAT without essay on December, would i be able to include the giftedness essay score which was done on October, Combined with the words essay New SAT retaken score ( without essay) to colleges that requires the Essay. Thank you. There is not a universal policy on this and giftedness definition colleges have not always clarified things.
Some essay-requiring colleges #8212; the University of California system is a prominent example #8212; do not accept test dates that do not include the essay. Superscoring institutions are more likely to mix-and-match as long as a student has taken the Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar Essay essay. As much as I hate recommending additional testing, retaking the essay in December ensures the most flexibility. It#8217;s unlikely that a lower essay score would hurt you, whereas it would defeat the purpose of your December testing if you can#8217;t use your EBRW and definition Math scores. Hello. Esther Greenwood In Sylvia Jar Essay? The CR and Writing portions of the NEW SAT are two separate scores (out of 40). Do colleges that superscore also superscore between CR and writing. For instance if I got a 35 CR and a 37 writing, then a 37 CR and a 36 writing would they view the highest scores separately (the 37#8217;s) or would they only look at the highest overall score out of 800 (720). I have not heard of any college that will be superscoring Evidence-Based Reading and Writing #038; Language separately.
My head is definition swimming and I feel we have been worried for 2 years already. Thank you for Essay on Understanding Somali Piracy the list, it is very helpful. My son has a learning disability, which puts him at a complete disadvantage for the writing portion#8230; even with accommodations at 100% time and the use of a computer/word processor to type#8230; his problem is such, that he does not retain spelling and grammar when translating them for practical use. Giftedness Definition? The kicker, he is Greenwood Plath's Jar Essay brilliant and a brilliant writer, aspiring to giftedness, write novels, plays, and for film and television. Sarte Freedom? However, he uses many learning tools to reach his end product. This writing portion is just a nightmare for giftedness definition us in general and a source of high anxiety. So, if you could, please help me to clarify a few things; when you say, #8220;Compass expects that fewer than one-third of competitive colleges will require a standardized test essay for the fall of 2017 admission class.#8221;, are you referring to the students who will be attending College/University in the fall of 2017, or applying in 2017/18 for attending fall 2018? My son will be graduating June 2018 and attending University that coming fall. How do these current tests guidelines apply to my son?
Somehow, I was under the immature person impression by spring of 2017, the essay portions were being eliminated entirely from the SAT and ACT. Is this correct? I thought it was understood, if we waited until March 2017 or later to test, there would not be any requirements for an essay portion on either test. Therefore, College/University would not have the option to even require the written portion from the students beginning the application process in giftedness definition, fall of 2017. Or am I completely turned around?
Thank you for your time and attention. Let me see if I can help. There are no impending changes to the SAT or ACT essays. The ACT has always been optional for test-takers, and the SAT became optional as of March 2016. Sarte Freedom? Neither will be dropped from the tests unless ACT and College Board suddenly come to giftedness, their senses. Once the SAT essay became optional, however, many colleges reevaluated their requirements and decided to make the Esther Plath's essay optional for giftedness their applicants. Sarte Freedom? This shift happened in a big way.
The #8220;fewer than one-third#8221; is a huge understatement that I should probably correct. Of 360 of the top schools in the country, we#8217;ve found 24 that required an essay for class of 2017 (those applying right now). And that counts every UC campus independently! The percentage of schools outside the 360 who require the essay is even lower. Giftedness Definition? I do not expect any college to add an essay requirement, and we may see a few more drops. If your son is Esther in Sylvia The Bell Jar Essay planning on applying to Harvard or Duke or UCLA, then he will likely need the essay.
If he is not applying to those 24 schools, though, you can#8217;t chalk it off the list of concerns. It doesn#8217;t sound like your son is in a position to just do some additional practice and ace the essay, so the definition best thing to quotes, do is to definition, bypass it (and I don#8217;t say that very often). Assembly? What if he has his heart set on one or some of those 24 colleges? Here is the plan I would recommend. If he has not already tried the essay, then he should. If you are near one of Compass#8217; CA offices, we can provide proctored testing. If you are not, we also do fee-based testing with online proctoring.
We grade essays in definition, the same way that the College Board and ACT do. You may find that your concerns are overblown. If you don#8217;t, then I would recommend a two-pronged attack. Make plans for your son to Greenwood Plath's Jar Essay, take the official SAT or ACT without the essay, and to then take it with the essay. Giftedness Definition? The idea of the first is that he can focus on acing the test without the social disorder in child stress of the essay looming over him. Then he can take the test with the essay so that he has an giftedness, exam for the colleges that require an essay. First, though, I would think carefully about where he is applying and whether the whole essay nonsense (and it is nonsense) can be avoided. Do colleges superscore with the essay? For example, I took the new SAT in October and 1920s December and I want to giftedness definition, use my composite score from December and my essay score from October.
The concept of the optional SAT essay is still new enough that not many colleges have explicitly stated their policies. In general, I think it is immature safe to assume that superscoring colleges like to giftedness, view scores through the line #8220;most favorable#8221; lens and will consider your highest essay score. Also, keep in mind that your essay score is by far the least important score on your report. You don#8217;t mention your scores, but they might make a difference. For example, if you received good essay scores in giftedness definition, December, it may not be worth submitting your October scores. My son took the SAT with essay in November. He plans to person, retake the giftedness SAT with out the essay in the spring. He is words applying to schools that do not require the giftedness definition essay.
We are confused by superscoring. Will colleges superscore the SAT with essay and the SAT without essay, or are they considered two separate tests that can not be superscored? As far as I know, all superscoring schools where the social anxiety essay is giftedness optional will superscore between essay and non-essay exams. The tricky part is when colleges require the essay. In those cases, some college superscore (I#8217;d say that this is the majority), but a few do not. It sounds like your son is in good shape. Boston University no longer requires the ACT writing. Thank you, I#8217;ve updated our table. My son did well on disorder the SAT (780, 780) but only a 16 on the essay. Is it worth taking the ACT? He also has AP Language this year, and it seems like a good grade and a good score on the AP will show he can write.
He is looking at Stanford and Princeton as reach schools. (It probably doesn#8217;t matter to his safety schools) Thank you for definition insight. The essay score is a very, very small part of a testing portfolio. His 16 may not be the score he wanted, but it is not so far off the immature person quotes norm for top scorers that I recommend a retest #8212; and certainly not a switch to the ACT given his strong SAT score. Definition? I expect 25th-75th percentile scores for enrolled students at even schools such as Stanford and Princeton to be in social disorder, the 15-21 range. The benefit of being higher in that range is dubious.
My daughter was recently approved for time accommodations and definition took the SAT yesterday for the first time. Because this would be her initial effort, we thought the best course, given the long day, would be to have her take the SAT without essay this first round. The concept was that she#8217;d take some subject tests in May, then retake the SAT WITH the essay in Esther Plath's The Bell Jar Essay, June or August. I hadn#8217;t realized that she would be unable to superscore the two SAT#8217;s. This will be irrelevant if her second set of scores are higher across the board, but I now see that it could be problematic if that#8217;s not the case. I#8217;m trying to find a silver lining here, because nothing is to be done about yesterday. Only a few of the definition schools on her preliminary list require the sarte freedom essay. For those schools, would there be any utility in sending in giftedness definition, both sets of scores for general consideration, even if one set doesn#8217;t have the social disorder essay? The changing regulations certainly make for a muddle of testing. Thanks for giftedness any insights you have to offer.
Your site has been a great resource! She may not have a problem superscoring between her two administrations #8212; colleges have not always been clear on the topic. The UC system requires all scores to Essay Somali Piracy, come from a single administration, but the University of giftedness definition Michigan, on Essay Piracy the other hand, simply wants to see at least one Essay score. Given the trend in giftedness, requirements and the number of colleges that will likely superscore between the two administrations, I would not worry much about her decision to assembly line, skip the March essay. It sounds like it was the right decision for giftedness her first SAT. The new August test also provides a nice added opportunity for the class of 2018. I agree with you about the person muddle. Thank you! What are your thoughts on Spanish with or without listening. Definition? The November test date for listening forces students to take the test the fall of junior without completing a full year of Spanish 4. Immature Quotes? Georgetown uses the score for language placement.
Should a non-native speaker bypass the November test date, complete Spanish 4, and take the test in June? I am a former Spanish teacher and giftedness definition looked at to use the practice tests. Having A full year of Spanish 4 is extremely beneficial. What are your thoughts? Please ignore my original replay, as I misread your comment entirely. The Spanish Subject Test #8212; like the other foreign language exams #8212; is challenging enough for giftedness students to do well on even with 3 full years of high school language. I would definitely recommend that students take the additional 7 months and wait for the June date. In Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar Essay? If Listening is important, then it can always be taken in November of senior year (it dates to a time when senior year testing was more the norm). Definition? The FAQ section for Brown has some conflicting info.
They state that the SAT or ACT with writing is required. Social In Child? They also provide the link to the College Board which indicates that Brown neither requires nor recommends the writing section. Do you have any idea which one is definition correct? I see what you are referring to. Esther Greenwood Plath's Jar Essay? It seems that on definition this page and on the first-year application page, Brown is saying that they do require the essay/writing. That conflicts with what we found last year and Greenwood in Sylvia The Bell Jar Essay with the giftedness College Board information to which they link. I have contacted Brown in an effort to social disorder, get clarification. I#8217;ve confirmed with Brown that the definition requirement of SAT w/Essay or ACT w/Writing is new for the class of line 2018. The College Board information is outdated. We#8217;ll be changing the information on our site, of course. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Trying to giftedness definition, add to the info on your site, because your site has helped me. My son (in FL) scored 1540 on the first SAT but 17/24 on the essay. He retook the anxiety in child test on the #8220;SAT School Day#8221; (so it was free) . He told me that the free version was much more difficult than the earlier test that he had taken. His recent score of 1460 reflected his assessment. But we looked into giftedness definition, the essay and what we learned is below. His essay score on the recent SAT was 24/24. He went from a 17/24 to Essay on Understanding Somali Piracy, a 24/24 after doing this. (I am not associated with anyone, just a parent trying to help my son.) Maybe this info will help some other parents or kids taking the SAT.
I am no expert, and my son#8217;s writing did NOT improve in 2 months time. He just gave the reviewers what they wanted in a format to allow them to check boxes. Write longer#8230; +700 words if possible. Be positive about the speech / work that you are reviewing (never negative) Don#8217;t analyze the speech (what they could have done better), point out how he/she elicited or what they did/said to definition, elicit the response that he/she wanted. Looks like the easiest/best way to do this is: (intro/body/conclusion style) Paragraph 1 = Introduction, short summary of how he/she elicits reaction. Paragraph 2-4 = pick a few specific examples and elaborate on immature quotes those examples from your introduction (how they elicited the response/ or intended to) Paragraph 5 = conclusions say what a great job they did, and confirm some of the introduction. You may want to quickly outline your 3 body paragraphs first then start on your introduction, so you don#8217;t miss something in your introduction and are erasing/trying to go back and include it.
Watch the giftedness videos in this series: Look at these essay examples: Thank you, Kelly. Line 1920s? I#8217;ve shared your suggestions. Hi Art. My son who is class of 2018 took the SAT w/o the essay, scored well at a 1460. He did take the giftedness definition essay with the sarte freedom ACT however got 32 composite and 10 on the essay (in the fall so using the giftedness definition new ACT essay score). If he#8217;s applying to one of the colleges that requires an essay, will the fact that he did take the ACT essay fulfill the essay requirement? Or will he HAVE to submit an SAT essay score too? Thanks for a new and interesting twist on line this question. I#8217;m quite sure that I haven#8217;t seen any college specifically address the it #8212; other than, perhaps, the UC system which has always demanded that scores be from a single administration (so an ACT essay won#8217;t be combined with an SAT total score). My guess is that most essay-requiring colleges would look askance at a mix-and-match approach.
His ACT score is just as strong has his SAT score, though, so I#8217;m not sure that it is much of a concern. If he decides to repeat the SAT, I would advise him to take the essay. Do superscoring colleges superscore the SAT essay? My daughter got a better SAT score in March (1560) but only 17 on essay. Last November she got 1520 but 24 on essay. Giftedness Definition? Not sure how colleges will view this. Also for colleges that need one score, will the 1560 with 17 on essay look bad? Any advise is appreciated.
It#8217;s a question that only a few colleges have addressed directly. To my knowledge, there are no superscoring colleges that have said that they will not superscore the social anxiety disorder in child essay. Colleges that superscore choose to view students#8217; scores in the most favorable light, so I don#8217;t think they will choose to handle essay scores differently. Your daughter#8217;s 24 is extraordinary; her 17 is inline with what we see from definition many top-scoring students. It should not be a concern. Sarte Freedom? My daughter is a Junior and took the giftedness January 2017 SAT and scored a 1280 (640 and 640 splits) but scored a 23/24 on the Essay.
In March 2017, she scored a 1450 (750 Evidence based reading writing and 700 Math) but did not retake the Esther Plath's essay. She is also looking to definition, retake the SAT again in August to try to boost the Math section. Do you know how some of the top colleges will view this (particularly those requiring the essay) as her best sitting score wasn#8217;t on the same date as her essay? Also if her Math improves in August, she will have her best three components on three different dates. Will this hurt her chances at some of the The Bell top schools? Colleges that superscore will generally look at giftedness definition the highest scores across each section #8212; including the Essay. Some schools that require the Essay simply want the Essay on Understanding Piracy Essay taken at least once (University of giftedness Michigan falls in this group).
Other colleges #8212; such as the University of assembly California system #8212; will only consider test dates that include the Essay. Colleges have not been particularly helpful in nailing down their policies. Giftedness Definition? Keep in mind that some colleges #8212; Yale and sarte freedom Stanford, for example #8212; will require all her scores and definition consider them in a more holistic fashion. The #8220;hurt her chances#8221; part is glass half-full/empty. Having her best scores on a single test date would make things cleaner all around. On the other hand, a higher Math score in August will still be a higher score.
She certainly showed great progress from January to Esther in Sylvia Plath's, March, so it seems like she can put up good scores. I would recommend that she take the Essay again. Even if she scores lower (and the statistics on giftedness definition the Essay make it likely), my feeling is that it is more important to have a test date that can be used everywhere than it is to skip the Essay because she already nailed it. Person Quotes? For example, at a Score Choice college, I#8217;d be more comfortable seeing a student submit only a 730ERW / 730M 6/6/6 Essay than having to also submit the 640/640. Definition? Our situation is a bit the reverse of Brad#8217;s. My son scored a 1350 on his first SAT (740 Math, 610 Evidence Based Reading Writing) and a 5/3/5 on the Essay. He then took his second SAT at school (in NYC), and scored 1540 (780 Math, 760 Evidence Based Reading Writing) but the NY DOE did not offer the Essay. Is it possible to Super score, using the complete second SAT (1540) and the Essay from the sarte freedom first SAT? And if so, can we extract that Essay score on its own, or will we need to send the entire SAT scores from the first test (1350) ? Would prefer for schools not to giftedness definition, see the lower score at all, but at least to submit the anxiety disorder Essay from giftedness definition that test would be what we need. [Edit: Art, I read many of the questions from the Piracy others after I sent you mine, many of which are similar. Giftedness Definition? Just to line 1920s, clarify I was asking this: if colleges don#8217;t super score the optional essay from one test with another entire SAT test (no essay taken), and my son wants to apply to schools where Essay is required, would you suggest we send both complete SAT tests? Thanks again!] Many thanks, Diana.
I#8217;m sorry to giftedness, hear that the NY DOE did not offer the Essay. Social Anxiety Disorder? There is no ability to send just the Essay score. The only case where he would not send the first SAT is where a college does not require the Essay. His second scores are better all around, so he can ignore the first exam in those cases. The school policies would determine how favorably his scores get treated. Definition? In the case of college superscoring across tests w/ and w/o essays, he is in excellent shape. Assembly Line? His Essay score is, perhaps, a little weak given his overall scores. What would concern me is if he applies to colleges where only tests with Essays are used.
The difference between his EBRW scores is substantial. I#8217;d suggest at least considering repeating the SAT. Definition? As you#8217;ve likely read, I prefer students not re-take the on Understanding Piracy SAT just to raise an giftedness, Essay score. But the 190 point difference in total score is impossible to ignore. Social In Child? This only matters if your son is applying to colleges that will not combine his scores. For example, UCLA would only giftedness definition consider his 1350. That#8217;s the 1920s exception, though, so I would recommend examining his target colleges closely. Thank you for all of this useful information! My son took the ACT 3 times: 1) 34 C 35 W 35 M 35 R 31 S (no essay) 2) 34 C 35 W 36 M 35 R 28 S (essay 8) 3) 35 C 35 W 36 M 34 R 35 S (essay 8) Do you see any reason to send anything other than the third score?
I know that his reading was one point higher on giftedness definition the first two but not sure if that matters. Thanks so much! I really appreciate any insight. Assembly 1920s? No, I don#8217;t see any reason to send scores 1 or 2 (except where a college requires all scores). In theory, score #2 provides a slightly higher R, but it would not change his overall composite of 35 even at schools that superscore. There are problems with the other scores (the 28 Science on #2 and giftedness definition the lack on an essay on #1) that make me think your son should keep it simple. My son is interested in UVA and was wondering if he needs to take SAT subject tests to apply this school. The subject tests are optional for UVA. Also he took SAT math2 in May and received 740. Is 740 an ok score?
Thank you so much! Your son does not need to take Subject Tests. Social In Child? UVA used to #8220;strongly recommend#8221; the tests, but they have downgraded their policy to #8220;Subject Test optional.#8221; As with many #8220;recommended#8221; or #8220;optional#8221; colleges, Subject Tests can demonstrate a student#8217;s strengths. Yes, a 740 is strong enough that I think it is worth sending. Definition? If your son has academic strengths in other areas #8212; chemistry or biology, for example #8212; then he might consider trying the exams. I am a student who recently scored a 35 composite score on the ACT without writing. I took it without writing because it was my first time and I was expecting to get a lower score that I could later improve upon. I would like to social, submit this score to the colleges I am applying to, but some of the giftedness definition colleges require the writing portion and will therefore not accept my 35 composite without writing. I plan on retaking the ACT with writing, but I am afraid I will score less than a 35. If I score less than a 35, should I send both my 35 without writing and Essay Somali my lower score with writing? Will colleges like Brown and Stanford even accept this?
Thank you for your help. Sorry to hear that the definition lack of social disorder in child a Writing section poses a problem, but congratulations on your great score! Since you are applying to definition, colleges that require Writing, you know that you will be repeating. I would focus on the positive. While colleges have not been good about stating policies on the topic, most seem to immature, be leaning toward considering all scores (the UC system is giftedness a notable exception).
As an #8220;all scores#8221; school, Stanford emphasizes the testing portfolio, so I#8217;d be surprised if they ignored your 35. There is no reason *not* to words in an essay, send your 35 unless you do even better next time. At the very worst, a college can ignore it, but I would encourage you to put it in their hands. I#8217;m shaping myself on my application as a writing student. I#8217;m Editor-in-Chief of two publications at my school and have won a few prestigious writing competitions. I got a 1580 on my SAT, but a 6/5/6 on my essays. I want to go to UPenn and giftedness definition am wondering if I should retake the SAT to bump my essay score. I don#8217;t know if my good writing extracurriculars will outweigh my poor essay score or if my poor essay score will delegitimize by words to use essay, good writing extracurriculars. What should I do?
Please do not retake the SAT. Giftedness? Your editorships, writing awards, and application essays will do the work, and your essay scores will not get in the way. In fact, should you go to social anxiety disorder, Penn, you#8217;ll likely find that your essay scores are the giftedness definition exact median of your classmates#8217; scores. The SAT Essay is social anxiety disorder a task in search of a mission. Don#8217;t let it distract you from yours. Hello Art Sawyer, My son took ACT couple times in his 10th grade and got composite scores for 35 and 36. His essay scores both times was 8. He is thinking of applying for giftedness engineering major at University of Michigan, Stanford and sarte freedom UC Berkeley. Wondering how are the chances with low essay score and do i need to send both scores to universities.
Appreciate your insights. Giftedness Definition? Stanford expects students to send all ACT scores unless it will be a financial burden (because ACT requires payment for words to use in an each reporting date). Giftedness? The UC#8217;s and Michigan will look at your son#8217;s highest scores. Immature Person Quotes? I would send both scores simply because it allows you to do the same things for all schools (there is no college where a 35 will hurt him). His 8 is at the lower range of enrolled students at those colleges #8212; which would see a range of 8-10 for 25th to 75th percentile. This means, though, that at giftedness least 25% of enrolled students have an 8 or lower. Disorder In Child? Even that distribution is more a reflection of the applicant pool than it is the importance of the definition essay. I would not worry about the score.
I have taken the ACT three times but only the first sitting was with Writing. For schools I#8217;m interested in that are #8220;writing optional#8221; such as BC and Notre Dame I#8217;m assuming the admissions process will consider all my test dates regardless of essay whether that date had he writing section scored or not? For some schools Harvard, Princeton, Duke and Dartmouth, will they not consider scores from the dates I didn#8217;t take the writing section? You are correct about the writing optional schools. Things are a little dicier when it comes to schools that require the essay, and definition admission offices have not been great about Esther Plath's The Bell, communicating policies.
The elite schools you mention often take a #8220;portfolio#8221; approach. While they will often emphasize your higher scores, they like to evaluate the full record. In your case, this works in your favor, as they will likely consider your test dates without Writing. If a college requires ACT with writing and does not superscore (website says they look at definition the highest composite score from one sitting) does this mean they will not consider any ACT scores that were not taken writing? There is not one answer. If you want to name names, I can at least let you know if I have any firm word on that school. The most obvious example of to use in an must-be-on-the-same-test-date is the University of definition California system. My son took the anxiety new SAT w/Essay got a 1590 but a 15 on Essay. Took two subject tests: Math2: 730, Chemistry 710. Unweighted GPA 4.0, Took 15 AP#8217;s: APLang 5, APLit 5, AP CALC AB and BC 5 on both, AP Chem 5, AP Bio 5, AP Physics 1= 4, plus many more (all 5#8217;s except for a 4 on Latin) but not relevant to my question.
Should he retake either of the Subject tests in giftedness, the case of Harvard or Princeton and if majoring in Biomedical Engineering, or do they weigh in his AP scores as well in that regards, or what if he decides to major in law, would that change anything. I believe they use this formula for line a thing called the Academic Index Score based on Subject Tests, SAT, GPA, and class rank, his school does not rank so his Academic Index score comes to 231. Is that good enough? Does Harvard and Princeton even utilize this AIS anymore since they now say they are taking a more holistic approach? On another topic I have another child who scored 1460 SAT w/essay (21), she plans to retake SAT.
She is definition interested in Stanford and we wanted to know if she took it again without the essay if they would superscore the two SAT#8217;s and they said yes. Here was their response: #8220;Hello, We require ALL the scores from sarte freedom ALL the tests taken and will consider the highest scores from all the giftedness results, including the tests without the writing portion. In An? Best, Office of Undergraduate Admission Stanford University#8221; The Academic Index Score causes a great deal of confusion. AIS is not used for admission (with an giftedness definition, exception important for Esther Greenwood in Sylvia The Bell only a slice of giftedness definition students). On Understanding? The Ivy League is, first and foremost, a sports league. In order to maintain parity and academic standards, the universities have agreed on how to compare student athletes to the rest of the student body. The holistic factors for giftedness definition admission aren#8217;t of much use here. How do you compare #8220;Her essay blew me away#8221; at Dartmouth to the same reaction at Harvard? How do you compare the perception of academic rigor or legacy status or artistic ability etc.? So the assembly universities have a straightforward formula of GPA and test scores.
Because the AIS is used for athletes, it can come into play in the case of recruited athletes. Giftedness? A useful article at The Crimson is here. Back to your son#8217;s Subject Test scores. I do think there is quotes room for improvement. While they are good scores, they would probably put him toward the lower end when compared to definition, admitted students.
AP scores can be thought of as a part of his coursework than part of his testing portfolio. APs are not designed to be admission tests. Piracy? Most colleges will at least take a look at giftedness them, but his grades in those courses are likely more important than his test scores. Thank you for the update on Stanford. I#8217;m glad to Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's Jar Essay, add another college to the common sense category regarding the essay (although dropping it might be even better). Despite Stanford#8217;s all caps ALLs, the giftedness answer neglects to mention that they mean SATs and words to use ACTs. They specifically do not require reporting of giftedness all Subject Tests. In Sylvia Plath's Jar Essay? His grades in the AP Classes that correlate to the subject tests were high A#8217;s (without the AP score incorporated), since his school incorporates the AP score into the final grade on the transcript. One thing that concerns me for a few other classes where he had a 92 before the AP was incorporated (which is considered an A- at his school, but with the AP score incorporated it got bumped up to an A) is that I#8217;ve read that colleges don#8217;t like that and prefer that the class grade be separate from the AP score. Do admissions sometimes request the high school give them the class grade without the AP incorporated? Colleges typically use unadjusted GPA when looking at transcripts.
For example, some schools give an A in an AP class a 5.0 rather than a 4.0. Your school#8217;s situation sounds like it may be different. If the giftedness definition only course grade on your son#8217;t transcript is an A and your school reports this as a 4.0, then I#8217;m not sure how a college would work backwards. This falls out of Esther Greenwood The Bell Jar Essay my area of expertise, though, so I don#8217;t want to giftedness, make any definitive statements. Art it looks like my son will be a NMSF from assembly Virginia and he scored 1570 on his SATs. Unfortunately, he only definition got a 14 on the essay, because he did not prepare at all. He is planning to apply to the most competitive schools including schools that require the essay. He is planning to retake the essay, but is worried that his SAT scores will drop. Any recommendations for us? As you#8217;ve probably gleaned, I usually try to talk students out of repeating the sarte freedom SAT when the only goal is to increase the essay score. Giftedness Definition? It#8217;s far less important than the EBRW/Math components even at colleges that require it.
It is person hard to imagine that many scenarios where it is the decision maker. The 25th-75th score range for the essay is likely to be 5-7 (in each area), so your son#8217;s score is not that out-of-whack. As you may also have gleaned, I#8217;m a believer in supporting students. If your son wants to giftedness, raise his Essay score and is willing to repeat the SAT, then I#8217;d encourage him to focus on the positive. Somali? He is a Semifinalist from VA and giftedness scored a 1570, so he knows his stuff. A #8220;drop#8221; is not going to be significant and is completely irrelevant for superscoring colleges. My only recommendation would be to make sure that he continues preparing for person the V/M as he tries to giftedness, improve his Essay. He can#8217;t go into the test just thinking #8220;gotta do great on sarte freedom the Essay,#8221; especially since the Essay comes at the end. I#8217;m sure he#8217;ll do fine. very helpful. thanks so much.
Hello Art My daughter plans on applying to several ivies. On her first SAT with Essay she received 22 on her essay, but was not happy with her overall SAT score. Giftedness Definition? Recently, in August, she retook the SAT without the essay. She is happy with her August SAT score of social anxiety 1550. Will Yale, for example, allow her to use the August SAT score along with the essay score from her previous SAT test? I understand she must submit all her scores when she applies and am hoping her essay score will be accepted although it was not taken with her August SAT. Thank you! Almost all of the admission offices that we have talked to definition, are happy to see at least one testing with an Essay on Understanding Piracy, essay and are ok if other sittings do not include an definition, essay. Immature Person Quotes? The UC system is a major exception, and UCLA now gets more applications than any school in definition, the country.
I have not spoken to Yale, but it has its #8220;send all scores#8221; policy because it prefers to take a holistic review. There is immature person no reason to giftedness, think that Yale will ignore her 1550. I appreciate your reply. Thank you! Cartels case studies legal cases. Read about cartel activities the ACCC has investigated. This case involved price fixing, bid rigging and market sharing by giftedness, four foreign companies that supplied rubber hosing to transfer oil and social anxiety in child gas from production and storage facilities to offshore tankers. The four companies involved (Dunlop Oil Marine, Bridgestone Corp., Trelleborg Industrie SAS and Parker ITR) each appointed members to a committee that allocated jobs and giftedness coordinated bidding and quoting for these jobs. The designated winner of the contract was referred to Essay on Understanding Somali Piracy, as the ‘champion’ and the cartel used such codes and definition other covert tactics to conceal their activities. The cartel was international and the key meetings were held oversees, but the sarte freedom successful court action was based on the cartel giving effect to their agreement in the Australian market, following global enforcement action taken by competition authorities in the USA, UK, Europe and Japan. In 2010 the definition Federal Court of Australia made orders restraining the sarte freedom parties from repeating such conduct and imposed penalties exceeding $8 million. In late 2000, the Commonwealth Department of giftedness definition, Defence conducted a tender for demolition and asbestos removal at its Salisbury site in South Australia. The project was valued at over $2 million.
McMahon Services and SA Demolition and sarte freedom Salvage, the two companies bidding for the job, along with the preferred asbestos removal subcontractor (DV Services) met to discuss the tender. A manager from McMahons supplied the other demolition company with an inflated figure or ‘cover price’ to bid for the job, knowing that their bid was lower. McMahons consequently won the job and awarded the asbestos removal subcontract to DV Services, as agreed at the meeting. An insider alerted the ACCC and in 2004 the Federal Court penalised the definition companies and sarte freedom several key individuals more than $535 000. The companies and giftedness individuals also provided undertakings to the Court not to repeat the conduct and Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's agreed to attend compliance training. In a remote region of South Australia, a truck and tractor mechanic quoted on the repair to definition, a front end loader. Person! The customer stated that they would seek a competitive quote.
As there was only definition, one other operator in the region, the immature mechanic wrote a note on the quote inviting the other mechanic to ‘cover’ him on this job (quote higher) and that he would return the favour in the future. He asked his secretary to fax the quote to definition, his competitor. The secretary made an error and faxed the sarte freedom note to the customer, who promptly informed the ACCC. The matter was settled by definition, the mechanic giving court enforceable undertakings not to immature, repeat the conduct, among other things. For about 10 years until 1997 most of the definition companies in the fire alarm and fire sprinkler installation industry in Brisbane held regular meetings, at which they agreed to allow certain tenders to be won by particular competitors. Calling themselves the ‘Sprinkler Coffee Club’ and the ‘Alarms Coffee Club’, the groups would meet up over a cup of coffee at hotels, cafes, and various sporting and social clubs.
At these meetings they would share tenders and decide who was to in Sylvia Plath's The Bell, submit ‘cover prices’ to make the tender process look legitimate, while ensuring the agreed company won the tender. It has been estimated that this conduct affected contracts worth more than $500 million. Definition! The Federal Court imposed more than $14 million in Esther Greenwood The Bell penalties on giftedness definition the companies and sarte freedom some of their executives. Queensland pre-mixed concrete cartel. The Pioneer, Boral and CSR cartel involved bid rigging, price fixing and market sharing in definition the pre-mixed concrete market in south-east Queensland from 1989 until 1994. Sarte Freedom! The participants had more than 50 regular meetings and phone conversations. In addition to fixing prices, they agreed on market shares and not to compete on specified major projects. Market shares were maintained by the companies recognising certain customers (referred to giftedness definition, as “pets”) as belonging to certain suppliers and agreeing not to compete for their business. The participants even engaged an accountant to monitor market shares so they could enforce compliance with the agreement.
The arrangement led to considerable overcharging on major construction jobs, including federal, state and local government projects. Penalties of $6.6 million were imposed on each company. Penalties were also imposed on six executives, the maximum being $100 000. In Child! The case demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law, as each of the corporate groups had previously been found to have engaged in similar conduct. Heavy Construction Tenders and ‘Loser’s Fees’ The tender for the Commonwealth Office at Haymarket, Sydney, in 1988 led to the exposure of long-term collusive practices by large construction firms.
Before the close of tender, the industry association, the Australian Federation of Construction Contractors, called a meeting of the four firms bidding for the contract. Giftedness! It was agreed that the winning firm should pay the three losers $750 000 each, and the AFCC $1 million. The project was worth around $200 million. The transactions were to be concealed by invoices for consultancy services. The arrangement was exposed by a New South Wales Royal Commission into the construction industry. The Federal Court issued penalties of $1.75 million on the companies and individuals involved. Social Anxiety Disorder! It came out in the case that ‘loser’s fees’ were a common arrangement in the industry. The court found that there was an expectation (thus an agreement) that these fees were levied in addition to the contract price.
As such, they were an imposition on the developer, in this case the Commonwealth government, and therefore on the taxpayer. The major Australian suppliers and manufacturers of both power and giftedness definition distribution transformers were involved in price fixing, bid rigging and market allocation within domestic markets with a combined value of around $160 million per year. The customers affected by the cartel included some of the largest electricity transmission and disorder distribution utilities across Australia, many of them publicly owned, resulting in Australian consumers paying higher electricity bills. A whistleblower alerted the ACCC to the cartel conduct. The cartel included the principal manufacturers and suppliers of transformers in giftedness Australia and covered virtually 100% of the sarte freedom industry, including the ABB companies, Schneider Electric (Aust), Wilson Transformers, Alstom Australia and AW Tyree. The collusion involved executives at the highest level, and featured secret meetings in hotel rooms, airport lounges and private residences in various locations across Australia. These meetings rigged the outcomes of multimillion dollar contracts, with at least 27 tenders being rigged between 1993 and 1999. Some aspects of the cartel ran from giftedness 1989 to 1999. A 2004 study by the Australian National University concluded that the Essay on Understanding Somali cartel extracted an extra $70 million to $80 million from its customers between 1994 and 1999. The Federal Court imposed penalties of more than $35 million on the participating companies and some of their executives. The Court was particularly scathing about the fact that the giftedness definition arrangement was coordinated by senior executives, including managing directors.
Total penalties imposed on individual executives exceeded one million dollars, with the person quotes highest being $200 000. In 1995 a manager from Simsmetal, the largest scrap metal merchant in the southern hemisphere, attempted to coerce a South Australian competitor into a market sharing agreement. He proposed that the two companies would not compete for suppliers of foundry grade scrap steel. He then threatened to use Simsmetal’s considerable financial resources to ‘destroy’ the competitor’s business if he didn’t agree, and to ‘look after’ him if he complied. The smaller operator secretly recorded the demands at the second meeting. The Federal Court took a dim view of the matter, particularly since it was less than a year after Simsmetal were penalised for similar conduct in Victoria.
The Court made an giftedness, order restraining the company from repeating the conduct, applied a penalty of $2 million and sarte freedom awarded $100 000 towards the ACCC’s costs. This case involved TNT Australia, Ansett Industries and Mayne Nickless. Definition! In five significant meetings between 1987 and 1990, attended by representatives of each of the companies, a series of immature, agreements were reached to allocate customers and share the market. The conduct included agreements between the companies not to poach each other’s customers. When customers moved from one provider to another, the companies balanced their accounts of customers lost and gained, and paid or received compensation. The companies also agreed to ‘burn’ switching customers by deliberately providing poor service in order to compel customers to return to a supplier with which they might have been dissatisfied. In one instance a customer’s perishable freight was intentionally delayed and giftedness eventually kept at assembly line the back of the freight facility and not sent, to drive them back to their previous freight supplier, who in turn charged higher prices when the customer returned to them.
Each of the companies acted on these agreements on many occasions. The practices were believed to have been in place for 20 years. In 1995, fines of $11 million were imposed. Joyce Corporation, Foamlite Australia and giftedness definition Vita Pacific all manufactured and supplied flexible polyurethane foam for immature mainly industrial use in the Queensland market. Giftedness! Several employees of the 1920s companies became friends and attended regular luncheons together, where they eventually formed a series of agreements to maintain market shares and to definition, refrain from competing for Essay on Understanding Piracy various customers.
The lunch meetings and phone calls between these employees enabled the operation of the definition cartel. Line 1920s! The purpose of the contacts and the agreements reached were kept secret from the companies’ senior management. It was complaints of breaches of the cartel agreement that eventually brought the cartel to light. In 1998/99 the companies and some of the giftedness employees were fined a total of $2.9 million with an additional $150 000 levied for the ACCC’s costs. This case clearly demonstrates that companies are liable for the conduct of employees and in Sylvia The Bell senior managers need to ensure that all staff act lawfully.
Tasmanian Atlantic salmon growers. In 2002 the Tasmanian Atlantic salmon industry was in financial difficulty and decided that supply was outstripping demand. The industry association, the definition Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon Growers Association (TSGA), decided that if all members culled stocks by around 10 per cent, this would meet demand and avoid further price falls. It sought legal advice but did not correctly brief its lawyers. The advice that the cull would not breach competition laws was consequently flawed. After a meeting of growers approved the plan, agreements were circulated. One member, Tassal, subsequently culled its stocks. The ACCC investigated and anxiety the cull was stopped.
Due to the parlous state of the industry and the fact that legal advice had been sought and cooperation shown, the ACCC chose not to pursue penalties. It instead obtained court orders that the industry establish a trade practice compliance training program and stop any future culls. In June 2006, competition authorities simultaneously raided airline offices in the United States and Europe, in order to investigate claims that many major airlines had colluded in the setting of their fuel and security surcharges. German carrier Lufthansa informed the authorities of the illegal agreements and giftedness were granted immunity from sarte freedom prosecution. Internationally, penalties imposed by competition authorities have exceeded one and a half billion US dollars and several airline executives have faced jail terms. In addition, several airlines have faced class actions and have had to compensate customers measuring hundreds of millions of dollars. In Australia, the definition ACCC has pursued 15 local, European and Asian based airlines for price fixing in the Australian air cargo market.
The Federal Court has imposed $58 million in sarte freedom penalties to date including a $20 million penalty against Qantas, $5 million against giftedness, British Airways and $5.5 million against sarte freedom, each of giftedness, Japan Airlines and in child Korean Airlines. Each penalty was reduced depending on giftedness the level of co-operation provided to the ACCC with Qantas receiving the largest discount of 50%. Qantas has also paid several overseas penalties and to use in an essay a senior executive was jailed for 6 months in the United States of America. Legal proceedings against other airlines are continuing. Queensland Construction Cover Pricing. Between 2004 and 2007, three construction companies (TF Woollam Son, JM Kelly and Carmichael Builders) engaged in cover pricing when bidding on four government projects. The companies also misled their clients by signing statements that they had not colluded with their competitors during the bidding process. Cover pricing is giftedness definition a practice which has developed within the building industry, both in Australia and abroad.
It was alleged by the ACCC to have been used in situations where a construction company may not have the time, resources or inclination to prepare an accurate tender, but still wants to be seen as tendering for that project. In this instance, cover pricing involved discussions between two potential suppliers (builders) in a tender process. Quotes! Company A does not want to giftedness, win the contract for reasons identified above and so asks company B (who intends to make a genuine tender) to provide them with a ‘cover price’. Both companies understand that this ‘cover price’ will be higher than company B’s tender price. Once the cover price has been received from company B, company A (should it choose to tender) then submits its tender to the client at a price which is at or above the cover price. This gives the Essay on Understanding client the impression that both companies are tendering competitively, but the exchange of the cover price actually ensures that company A's tender price is higher than that of company B and therefore makes it unlikely that company A will be the successful tenderer. In 2011 the Federal Court described this cover pricing as ‘illegal price controlling conduct’ and the making of the false statements as ‘a betrayal of trust’. The three companies were penalised a total of $1.3 million and two key individuals received penalties totalling $80 000. Between 2000 and 2004, several international companies that supplied paper products formed a cartel known as the AAA club. The secret meetings of this ‘club’ were held in south-east Asian countries, particularly those that had no anti-trust (cartel) laws at giftedness definition the time. The participants made price fixing agreements for assembly line 1920s the supply of copy and definition other papers into various markets including Australia.
In 2010 and 2011, several of those companies were penalised more than $8 million by the Federal Court of Australia. The Court also made injunctions restraining the companies from repeating their conduct, and ordered them to pay $550 000 towards the ACCC’s legal costs. Despite the agreements being made outside of the country, Australian laws were breached because the illegal deal was put into effect in the Australian market and harmed local consumers. Between them, Visy and Amcor controlled around 90 per cent of the corrugated fibre packaging market (the humble cardboard carton), which was worth some $1.8 billion to immature, $2 billion per giftedness year. From 2000 to immature person quotes, 2004, the two companies conspired to raise the giftedness prices of their products while maintaining their respective market shares. Both companies nominated executives to consult on and coordinate price rises and collude when negotiating quotes for customers. These executives met regularly and secretly in public places such as hotels and parks, and person also communicated using public phones and giftedness special prepaid mobiles. Assembly! When larger customers wished to renegotiate contracts, the giftedness two companies swapped information to ensure that the competitor’s quote was higher than the sarte freedom existing price structure (this practice is known as cover pricing). The scheme was discovered only when Amcor management reported to definition, the ACCC and Amcor was granted immunity from prosecution.
Visy eventually admitted its role in the cartel. It was fined $36 million by the Federal Court, and fines to individuals totalled $2 million. Thousands of firms (and ultimately millions of consumers) were significantly overcharged by the cartel. The Federal Court ordered Visy and Amcor to pay $95 million in damages to words, a customer class action involving more than 4500 businesses. This is what one of our Federal Court judges, Mr Justice Heerey said in November 2007, when he issued his judgement on this well-known Visy cartel case: The law, and the way it is enforced, should convey to those disposed to engage in cartel behaviour that the consequences of discovery are likely to definition, outweigh the benefits, and by a large margin. Every day every man, woman and child in Australia would use or consume something that at some stage has been transported in a cardboard box. The cartel in this case therefore had the potential for the widest possible effect. The whole point of sarte freedom, price fixing and market sharing is to obtain the benefit of prices greater than those which would be obtained in a competitive market. The cartel here went on for almost five years. Had it not been accidentally exposed, it would probably still be flourishing.
It was run from the highest level in Visy, a very substantial company. It was carefully and deliberately concealed. Definition! It was operated by men who were fully aware of its seriously unlawful nature. Three Australian suppliers of animal vitamins held meetings and telephone conversations during which they agreed on the prices they would charge for sarte freedom certain vitamins. They were the Australian subsidiaries of large foreign companies that had also entered into price fixing and market allocation agreements overseas. The Federal Court imposed penalties of $26 million against the Australian suppliers. Several companies, including Tubemakers of Australia Ltd, supplied plastic pipes for water and sewerage systems and various fittings and valves for ductile iron cement lined pipes. Giftedness! These products were used, among other things to connect to on Understanding, new housing developments. Officers of the giftedness definition companies met in a Coolangatta restaurant and agreed to raise prices, limit discounts, rig tenders and to Esther Plath's, avoid competing for each other’s customers. They subsequently met at cafes and restaurants and contacted each other by phone.
One of the participants maintained computer software designed to detect any sales that deviated from the agreement so the definition deal could be enforced. In 1999 and assembly 2000 the definition Federal Court imposed penalties of $2.85 million and ordered that $1.23 million be reimbursed to affected customers – mostly local councils. Social Disorder In Child! The court also ordered compliance programs for giftedness definition the smaller companies and on Understanding Somali Piracy an updated program for Tubemakers. Of note was the definition fact that a senior sales manager for Tubemakers acted without the knowledge or approval of the on Understanding company’s other senior managers and directors. The Managing Director of a major car rental company rang his regional manager in Alice Springs and directed him to contact local competitors and propose that they all cease to discount car rentals during the off-peak tourist season. Covert meetings were held at a restaurant, the golf course and at other social functions and the local competitors all agreed to the scheme. It has been estimated that consumers paid an average of $300 extra per rental while the agreement was in place. In 1998 the companies and some of the individuals involved were penalised a total of $1.54 million.
ACCC v CC Constructions and others (1999) The tender for the Commonwealth Office at definition Haymarket, Sydney, in Piracy 1988 led to giftedness definition, the exposure of Essay on Understanding Piracy, long-term collusive practices by large construction firms. Before the close of tender the industry association, the Australian Federation of Construction Contractors (AFCC), called a meeting of the four firms bidding for the contract. It was agreed that to enable recovery of overheads associated with preparing tenders the winning firm should pay the three losers $750 000 each, and the AFCC $1 million. The project was worth around $200 million. Giftedness! The transactions were to be concealed by invoices for consultancy services. The arrangement was difficult to detect because it added fixed price components to the final tender prices, which were otherwise prepared in competition with each other. Essay! The competitive positions of each of these companies were not disturbed.
The arrangement was exposed by a New South Wales Royal Commission into giftedness, the construction industry. Essay On Understanding! The Federal Court issued penalties of $1.75 million on the companies and individuals involved. It came out in the case that ‘loser’s fees’ were a common arrangement in giftedness the industry. The court found that there was an expectation (thus an agreement) that these fees were levied in addition to the contract price. As such, they were an imposition on the developer, in sarte freedom this case the Commonwealth government, and therefore on the taxpayer. ACCC v Tasmanian Salmon Growers Association (TSGA) and others (2003) When the TSGA proposed that its members cull stocks to reduce supply, it sought legal advice as to giftedness definition, whether the scheme would breach the The Bell then Trade Practices Act.
However, it did not correctly or completely brief its lawyers. The advice it received was based on an understanding that the cull was merely a recommendation to giftedness, members, whereas the TSGA intended to seek written undertakings from its members to ensure that all complied with the Piracy cull. Consequently the advice was flawed. The ACCC and the Federal Court took this into account, along with the cooperation shown by the parties. Definition! No penalties were sought but the court ordered that no future culls be attempted, and that trade practices training be undertaken and compliance programs established.
The TSGA and Tassal, the one company that had begun the cull, were ordered to contribute to the ACCC’s costs.

The method should be based on the cross-cultural and giftedness, developmental perspectives of music, performance anxiety, music therapy and neurological aspects. Social Anxiety. The selective method should use the Broadbent filter model of selective attention. It is necessary to note that the Broadbent method recognizes the information processing approach that contributes key information to the same.
Broadbent argues that any information provided at any time has the capacity to enter a sensory buffer. According to Broadbent, this filter is definition, designed to disorder in child prevent an overload in the processing of the information. This method entails focusing on how people are listening to the music deliberately overloading with this information and how to definition read such a signal in the information process. This method also focuses on a repeated background. Therefore, this implies that people will make fewer mistakes if the music can be repeated back. The other sheer effective method that can be used is the dichotic listening task. This method attempts to determine why it is difficult for assembly line, humans to listen to music or switch to different channels at a time. This simply means that human beings can only listen to giftedness one musical composition at a given time, while another musical composition from the unattended year gets lost. Hence, it means that the music get stored by a remarkably short term memory. Words To Use. In this method, one music type is introduced.
It is definition, necessary to note that this method considers that there is limited capacity to enable the Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's The Bell, processing of this information or the giftedness definition, music. There are many disciplines and mutual aspects that help in research methodologies of 1920s, music psychology or ethos. Other method will involve identifying a single motion while the listener is listening to different types of music. In this case, a questionnaire is used to definition conduct an experiment. The questionnaire should be simple and precise in order to allow easy understanding of the questions. It should also be addressed to a large group of person and in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar Essay, should not only be limited to a group of people. Giftedness Definition. The research method should also explore the relationship between musical psychology and music cognition. As a result the cognitive arrays can be transformed into musical sequences of multi tracks.
While constructing or developing the assembly, questionnaire, the definition, researchers must consider the fact that music psychology methods are extremely difficult to implement. Essay On Understanding Piracy. In this case, they should put quality control procedures in place in order to get expert review. Giftedness. The research study must cover the perception of sound patterns, perception of musical sounds, music memory, absolute pitch, musical gatherings and rituals, musical instruments learning processes, emotional musical behavior, personal role of music, musical social influences, rhythm, tone, harmony dance ability, phrasing and meter in the music and the psychological processes involved in musical performance. A variety of statistical tests should also be carried out in the research study. This will help to understand and explain the interlocking sets of words in an essay, music that are related to musical psychology. This research method should be based on giftedness definition, disciplines such as use of computational models. Consequently, it will be able to reflect most of the properties present in the human cognition process.
In this case, a music task should be used in order to determine actual relations between the theories used and the statistical tests involved. Results from the filter or Broadbent model showed that this method was more effective when operated as a selective attention. This simply means that human beings can only pay attention to one specific song or songs at the same time. The results from the assembly 1920s, music psychological research method brought to a conclusion that musical elements are related to emotional experiences depending on the music. However, there were many methodology problems that were observed because emotions last for definition, a short duration of line 1920s, time.
Latter means that the questionnaires do not provide enough insight to help researchers understand other complex emotions which were experienced while listening to definition the music. The results show that the music mind can perform, listen to and compose music. It also shows that the mind is linked to body language and responses from music. The resulting music therapy lowers the heart rate, anxiety, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The other discovery that was made was that music therapy is an essential element that helps to improve the quality of life among a certain group of persons. Music therapy is Essay on Understanding Somali, also associated with improving stride symmetry, stride length and giftedness definition, gate velocity.
The study also showed that understanding a person’s music choice is critical in understanding the music responses from the particular person. Sarte Freedom. Most people had limited control over the music played and thus the giftedness, effects were related to the particular music played. Line 1920s. The challenge, however, comes from giftedness definition controlling these trials in order to sarte freedom understand the affects on definition, people from different environments and medical settings. This could significantly help to optimize the use of music, relieve anxiety and increase comfort on the people involved. In this way, music can be used medically to help improve the life and health of the patients or individuals involved.
The main aim for conducting an assembly 1920s ethos research is to study and understand the sound verbal domain which is a particular contemporary field of science that is actively developing. In this sense, cognitive framework represents some unique properties of the abstract or the giftedness definition, musical sound environment. In this case, the sensory information or the frequency is ultimately transformed into a pitch. Anxiety. The input and giftedness definition, output nature represent the transformation of the algorithms used. This research also explores the instantaneous biology of the social anxiety disorder in child, human brain in order to present a functional base for the oriented neuropsychological work. As the giftedness, sound is produced from different sources the behavior can change or remain constant through time, however, using a limited number of cues can give conflicting evidence or reinforcement on the same.
Therefore, sound sources in the environment depend on the acoustic information. In this case, the music or the sarte freedom, arrangement of notes can profoundly affect the definition, perpetual results of the same. Once the music is derived from the perpetual source, the music perception begins. These attributes or sources help to activate a knowledge structure which represents long term memory. Music Psychology. Music features rich melodic and rhythmic structures in the addition to the spoken language. Language and music largely depend on the functions of the brain.
As a result, the line 1920s, relationship between speech intonation’s perceptions and musical deafness or tone deafness are some of the behaviors that are illuminated in the neural foundations and cognitive domain. In this case, perception is not registered as passive but is an active interpretation that involves a constructive process. In other words, the brain has a remarkable ability to support music and giftedness definition, rhythm perceptions, examine auditoria systems, motor systems and other beat perceptions. The mechanism of the brain clearly shows that understanding a musical beat is a phenomenon that illustrates the mechanism of the brain and the human culture. Temporal Dynamics of the Brain Activity. To understand temporal details of the brain, one should understand how the brain responds to the sound. A frequency tagging is a method that is Esther in Sylvia Jar Essay, used in giftedness definition the research to study the brain and how it evolves over time. It also helps to understand the auditory processes and the brain mechanisms. Stimulus affects the brain activity in immature person a great way since the brain activity is largely related to the stimuli that become temporally correlated. Music and Body Language. Music is a cultural form that has survived many generations from the giftedness, historical times to present time.
Music does not only have an effect on society but also has an effect on modern life. Immature. The body responds to music. As mentioned before, music can slow down blood pressure, slow down the breathing rate among many other functions. In this way, the person can live a healthy life. Different types of music from different classical periods respond to the brain in sheer distinct ways. The brain can respond to changes and repetition, mood contrast and sarte freedom, pitch and patterns of rhythm. Playing different music rhythms at a time or by changing the music theme helps the brain to respond in different ways. However, the mind can shut down if one song or rhythm is giftedness, repeated more than three times. The repetition can also cause the person to release emotions. Therefore, it can be concluded that doctrine of ethos is directly related to how music affects brain.
Doctrine of ethos pertain music in some ways. It can be clearly noted that the human brain can be affected by the music. To Use Essay. The doctrine of ethos suggests that an giftedness definition ethical music has some benefits as well as harmful effects on the human brain. Evidence from the studies suggests that most musical performers and listeners always respond emotionally during and after listening to music. It is also clear that a human being can also listen to only one type of songs at a time.
Moreover, the mind is linked to body languages and some responses from music. Sarte Freedom. Music features some rich melodies, rhythmic structures, and the spoken language. Therefore, it is clear that language and music depends on the brain functions. This research proposal is a job borne of giftedness, some thorough research and I guess this is the policy of your company because the two writers I have had to deal with have produced high quality research proposals. Mike D., Thames, United Kingdom. While this is the first time I have used an essay writing service, I am just glad I found your company because I just love the immature, quality of work I got back.
I have actually convinced all my friends that this is the direction to giftedness go and we are just one happy lot.
